Child Advocates-Denver CASA advocates for the best interests of children who have experienced abuse or neglect by training diverse volunteers who create opportunities for children, youth and families to thrive. Our vision is that all children, youth and families are thriving emotionally, mentally, and physically with lifelong connections to caring and responsible adults, a permanent home, and a safe and nurturing environment where they have a sense of belonging.

  • Our staff and CASA Volunteers had a wonderful time at this year’s Colorado CASA state conference! This year, we are thrilled to announce that Denver CASA Volunteer Caroline Charles was named CASA Advocate of the Year, which is given out to a CASA Volunteer in the state of Colorado who has provided exceptional advocacy on their case. We are also excited to announce that Guardian ad Litem & Counsel for Youth Alison Jensen was named Professional Partner of the Year, which highlights Alison’s excellent legal representation of children and youth in Denver Juvenile Court. Thank you to Colorado CASA for putting on an incredibly informative and invigorating event!   • Happy National Hispanic Heritage Month from everyone at Denver CASA! From September 15th to October 15th, Hispanic Heritage Month seeks to uplift the achievements and contributions of Hispanic Americans across the United States. At Denver CASA, this month is also an important moment to recognize Hispanic heritage and culture in Colorado, and reflect on the child welfare system’s shortcomings for Hispanic children, youth, and families. At Denver CASA, we are always looking for CASA Volunteers from a wide variety of backgrounds, including Hispanic and Spanish-speaking volunteers.   • Please join us in welcoming Shabana Walker, MA, who recently joined Denver CASA's Board of Directors! Ms. Walker is a technology executive and people leader who is committed to employee growth and collaborative success. As the vice president of Customer Experience in Comcast’s West Division, she has a proven track record as a dynamic, collaborative leader who transforms and enhances the customer experience with thoughtful strategies and innovative programs. A champion for children, Ms. Walker is committed to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging; and reducing food insecurity. She is a proud supporter of organizations including the Autism Society of Colorado and the Food Bank of the Rockies. Shabana sits on the board of directors for ACE Scholarships. Ms. Walker holds a master’s degree in Organization Development and Change from Pennsylvania State University and is pursuing her doctorate in Education from the same institution. She is also a graduate of the Wharton Women’s Executive Leadership: Business Strategies for Success program. In 2023, Shabana was named one of the Power 100 by Diversity Woman magazine.

  • Last weekend, Denver CASA hosted the children and youth that we serve, their families, and our CASA Volunteers for our annual Back to School Backpack and Book Fair! All attendees were able to “shop” for backpacks, school supplies, books, and other items that set children up for success when entering the school year. Thank you to Bron Tapes, the Denver Alumnae of Kappa Alpha Theta, the Denver Public Library, members of the Cherry Creek North Neighborhood Association, and the faculty at CU College of Nursing for donating items for the fair!
