This convening will explore the impact of policy and the 2024 election on young people. Additionally, American Youth Policy Forum will gather key policymakers, advocates, and educators to discuss how national, state, and local policies can better serve young people, particularly those marginalized by systemic inequities. The U.S. Surgeon General has advised that more must be done to address parental stress in America as it has become a significant public health challenge. Forty-eight percent of parents say that most days their stress is completely overwhelming, compared to 26% among other adults, according to Vice Admiral Dr. Vivek Murthy. "This advisory calls attention to the importance of parental stress, mental health and well-being, stressors unique to parenting, and the bidirectional relationship between parental mental health and child outcomes," the advisory reads. We know that a big contributor to the stress on parents is being able to provide for and protect their children. This is why CDF advocates for policies, like family-supporting wages and asset-building opportunities, that improve family stability and economic mobility and help alleviate family stress.
