We're thrilled to receive the Association of Midwest Museums' Best Practices Award for our partnership with Hosanna House Inc. and the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service on HH's Center for Aviation Training and Technology and the Aim High: Soaring with the Tuskegee Airmen traveling exhibit. Very proud of this team of visionaries, collaborators and can-do people that came together to create a unique model in our community that can now travel around the country.

So excited to announce that we were a recipient of the Making an Impact Award from the Mid-Atlantic Association of Museums for our partnership with Hosanna House Inc. and the creation of the Center for Aviation Technology and Training! The award honors museums and institutions for a program, exhibit or special project that displays responsiveness and resourcefulness and results in creative change for their organizations and a positive impact on their communities. All the credit goes to our amazing Children's Museum of Pittsburgh Interactive Exhibits and Experience Design team. Children's Museum of Pittsburgh designs and builds exhibits that are featured in our museum, then travel across the country to be enjoyed by hundreds of thousands of children and families. We're excited that some have impacted the conversation and work around children's social and emotional development. The application for MuseumLab for Museum Professionals is now open until September 5, 2024! This eight-month program is a partnership with the Children's Museum of Pittsburgh and Association of Children's Museums (ACM). Designed to spark creative innovation, the program consists of virtual convening and an in-person intensive. What is “making,” what constitutes a “makerspace” and why does making matter? Join museum professionals in a four-day immersive maker experience where you are the learner. Examine the value and importance of making in education by experiencing it for yourself. Participate in hands-on making, engage with other educators and explore MAKESHOP’s Principles of Practice and other research-based tools and strategies. Whether you are an experienced educator, maker expert, new to teaching/makerspaces or anywhere in between, this professional development experience will offer insight into the people, processes, tools and materials necessary to cultivate maker-centered learning for any space, formal or informal. Educator opportunity! Join us for our 3rd Annual Genius, Joy and Love Institute in partnership with the University of Pittsburgh School of Education. Genius, Joy, and Love is a five-day intensive summer institute that will bring together Black youth and adult educators to explore questions about how to center racial justice and equity through creative, arts-informed, innovative and relevant curricular engagements. We're honored to receive a Special Achievement Award from PA Museums for the exhibit AIM HIGH: Soaring with the Tuskegee Airmen, created in partnership with Hosanna House Inc. AIM HIGH explores flying and aviation experiences through hands-on play and real artifacts, from the rich history of the Tuskegee Airmen to 21st century STEM concepts. The exhibit features Black Wings, American Dreams of Flight, organized by the Smithsonian Institution Travelling Exhibit Service in collaboration with the National Air and Space Museum, Smithsonian Institution, that tells the story of African Americans' achievements in the world of aviation. AIM HIGH debuted in February 2022 at the Center for Aviation Technology and Training and Tuskegee Airmen Museum in Wilkinsburg, PA; in September 2023, a traveling version began a US tour. Congratulations to KT Todd, the Children's Museum's Director of Learning and Research, who was one of nine recipients of the American Alliance of Museums 2024 Nancy Hanks Memorial Awards for Rising Stars! KT leads research, evaluation, and professional development projects for the Museum that center equity and justice. They advocate for culturally-responsive work in both what we do with visitors and how we lead our Museums, while inspiring systemic change. We congratulate all of the honorees of the AAM 2024 Awards and Recognition Program for their work in building thriving museums and strong communities everyday.
