In 2023, our SEEN (Support to End Exploitation Now) team received a record-breaking 285 referrals for youth who were commercially sexually exploited or at high risk. Each day, SEEN facilitates coordinated, multidisciplinary responses to reports of high-risk missing and exploited youth in Boston, Chelsea, Revere, and Winthrop MA. Unfortunately, exploitation of children is not uncommon, and an effective response requires strong, survivor-centered partnerships like ours with My Life My Choice, as well as our entire community's help, to ensure youth safety. Follow My Life My Choice on socials and head to https://lnkd.in/eA3TWJgU for more information about recognizing and responding to exploitation. 🔄📸 https://lnkd.in/eCnr5j9T: "We all have the power to fight back against trafficking. On September 17, Instagram began implementing account restrictions for teens, claiming these measures are intended to boost youth safety. However, experts worry that these new features fall short of true understanding of and protections against the risks youth face online. In this report from WCVB Channel 5, SEEN (Support to End Exploitation Now) Program Manager, Sheelah Gobar, speaks with Danae Bucci about experts' concerns that social media apps continue to put the onus on parents and youth to be hypervigilant despite rolling out new features, and that these features may actually encourage perpetrators of online abuse and exploitation to use new tactics to gain access to youth. Questions remaining include: How will Instagram verify users' ages? How could the app prevent adults from posing as teens? What do caregivers and youth need to know about staying safe on the app, even with these features in place? Visit https://buff.ly/3XZSyJH for the full article and https://lnkd.in/e4fQqfV2 for online safety resources. #ChildAdvocacy #ChildProtection #ChildSafety #SuffolkCounty #SuffolkCAC #ChildrensAdvocacyCenter #OnlineSafety #SocialMediaSafety #VideogameSafety #SocialMedia #Videogames #StopSextortion #StopBlockTalk #Instagram #InstagramTeenAccounts

Last week, our Executive Director, Annie Marcklinger-Gordon (center), hosted Amanda Teo (right), a Member of the #SuffolkCAC Board of Trustees, and her dear friend Ling Hu-Kramer (left), to tour our space and learn more about how we're supporting the children and families of #SuffolkCounty. We are grateful to Amanda for sharing her passion for the CAC's work with her circle of friends and we truly appreciate the time Ling took to come see us and learn more about the CAC! We love showing our space to those who are interested in seeing firsthand where healing begins for the children who come through our doors. If that sounds like you, be sure to reach out to Nicole at nbresnahan@suffolkcac.org to schedule a tour! #ChildrensAdvocacyCenter #ChildAdvocacyCenter #ChildAdvocacy #ChildAbuse #StopChildAbuse #PreventChildAbuse #ChildAbusePrevention #EndChildAbuse #ChildWelfare #Exploitation #ChildSexualExploitation #CSEC #ProtectKids
