"Learning by Doing." The CMA exists to foster a creative environment through "hands-on" exhibits and programs.
About us
Since 1996, the CMA has provided children, their families, and educators a creative environment with interactive exhibits and programs. Located in Downtown Lafayette, LA, the CMA serves over 45,000 annual guests who visit from the Acadiana parishes, south and central Louisiana, out-of-state, and international locales. At the CMA, children and their families explore and make discoveries that de-mystify everyday experiences, cultures, and human differences. In addition to field trips on offer to school and summer camp groups, throughout the year the CMA hosts workshops, camps, seasonal paid events, and birthday parties – all of which include art activities. Daily, an art activity using recycled materials that is designed and produced by CMA arts educators, is on offer in the ReUSEum Exhibit. Monthly, the CMA produces the “Only One You” Literacy Program for children ages 4-7 in which participants engage in reading and arts activities, and the monthly “Mornings at the Museum” Program includes art activities curated specifically for children with developmental differences. Other regular programing includes “Toddler Tech,” “Work of Art Wednesdays,” and “Members Day of Play.” Special events – the “Egg-stra Special Easter Party, a “not so haunted” “Spooktacular” Halloween event, the “Twinkle Light Night” (TLN) Christmas party, and the “New Year’s Noon Carnival and Countdown” – always include a holiday-themed art activity. In collaboration with other organizations including Acadiana nonprofits - such as Big Brothers Big Sisters, Boys and Girls Club of Acadiana, Hope for Opelousas, Healing House, Foster Friends, and Miles Perret Cancer Center to name a few - that promote missions to benefit children, the CMA serves developmentally different, underprivileged, and at-risk children . As a private, 501(c)3 non-profit organization, the CMA receives no funding from local, state, or federal governments except in the form of periodically awarded grants.

One of our partners excels at teaching young children computer science concepts. Enjoy!
🎊 I'm sooo excited to share the first episode in my YouTube STEM series (https://lnkd.in/gjJqjXr3) for kids on #internationaldayofplay. This episode explores the concept of loops, a fundamental programming technique that enables computers to perform repetitive tasks efficiently. To make this concept relatable for young learners, I compare loops to following a dance routine💃🏾. Just as dancers repeat steps in the Cupid Shuffle, computers use loops to repeat instructions. This fun analogy helps children see the practical application of coding in everyday activities they enjoy. 👨👩👧👦 For Parents & Educators: Understanding loops is essential for developing coding skills and enhancing problem-solving capabilities. I simplify these complex ideas into enjoyable and accessible lessons that spark curiosity and creativity. 🎮Why Loops Matter: From the games we play to the apps we use daily, loops are a core part of how technology works. By learning how these structures operate, kids begin to think like programmers, approaching problems with innovative and efficient solutions. 🗓️ Catch New Episodes Weekly! Join us every Tuesday and Thursday for new adventures in Computer Science, tailored specifically for children ages 3-8. So grab your coding robots explorers! https://lnkd.in/gjJqjXr3 #stem #stemforkids #stemeducation

The Children’s Museum of Acadiana is thrilled to announce a NEW healthcare exhibit titled Healthy Me, presented by Tides Medical. This project has been on our wish list for quite some time, and now we are so excited to offer a hands-on educational experience centered around healthcare to the children of Acadiana. The exhibit contains many interactive zones like: The Skin You’re In: The layers of the skin and how to take care of it. Inside Out: Systems of the Body and how they work together for each of us to function. Germs: How germs make us sick, and how red blood cells/white blood cells come to the rescue. Look at Me, I’m Dr. A: A place to imagine what it’s like to grow up and become a PhD or a MD! There are so many people to thank but namely Annie and Joe Spell and the Tides Medical team. We are so excited to see how the children respond to this colorful, educational addition to the Children’s Museum of Acadiana!
