The purpose of the China Aerospace Studies Institute (CASI) is to advance understanding of the capabilities, operating concepts, and limitations of China's aerospace forces, which encompass the PLA Air Force (PLAAF), Naval Aviation, Rocket Force and space assets. Created at the initiative of the Director, Strategy, Concepts, and Assessments, Headquarters of the United States Air Force (USAF), CASI aims to fill a niche in the China research community by providing high quality, unclassified research on Chinese aerospace developments in the context of U.S. strategic imperatives in the Asia-Pacific region.

What an utter disgrace. 😞 CNA [excerpt]: More Taiwanese spectators at the 2024 Summer #Olympics in #Paris have reported having signs and banners confiscated by security staff or snatched by Chinese fans. Sandy Hsueh (薛雅俶), the president of the Taiwanese Association in #France, told CNA that three security personnel confiscated a blank piece of cardboard from her at Sunday's men's doubles badminton final, in which #Taiwan's Lee Yang (李洋) and Wang Chi-lin (王齊麟) defeated China's Liang Weikeng (梁偉鏗) and Wang Chang (王昶). According to Hsueh, a staff member told her they had "received an instruction from the Olympic Games saying that anything related to Taiwan or showing Taiwan cannot appear." "Obviously we were targeted because Chinese fans were sitting in the front row seat on the lower level holding a Chinese national flag that exceeded the size allowed by the #IOC [the #InternationalOlympicCommittee]," Hsueh said. Despite reporting the oversized Chinese flag, Hsueh said venue staff took no action over the offending banner. In addition, Hsueh said, many spectators recorded evidence of a Chinese woman holding a mobile phone, standing next to the security personnel and directing them to confiscate signs and banners from Taiwanese supporters. Another fan took pictures of the woman thanking the staff and volunteers after the game and handing out badges to them one by one, Hsueh said. Sunday's fracas follows similar scenes during Lee and Wang's semifinal on Friday, where a Taiwanese spectator had a banner snatched by an unknown Chinese man, who was reportedly ejected by venue staff. According to Reuters, at the same event, a towel with the word "Taiwan" printed on it was confiscated from a Taiwanese fan by venue staff. Hsueh said she believes that China's interference has gone beyond the scope of IOC framework on fairness, inclusion and nondiscrimination. A Chinese human rights activist who preferred to remain anonymous told CNA that the government in Beijing dispatches people to Olympic events in which Taiwan participates to scrutinize flags and reports them to the IOC. #news #sports #corruption #business

The authors of this MIT study audited the key components of drones. Almost all of them are made in China. Given that drones are now an essential warfighting capability, we can not sustain a war of resistance to CCP agression without an urgent industrial policy to friend-shore key industrial and electronic components. This is a bi-partisan, national security issue that goes well beyond semiconductors. "Disassemble one of the FPV drones found across the battlefields of Ukraine and you will find about seven critical subsystems: power, propulsion, flight control, navigation and sensors (which gather location data and other information to support flight), compute (the processing and memory capacity needed to analyze the vast array of information and then support operations), communications (to connect the drone to the ground), and—supporting it all—the airframe. Should the ISO - International Organization for Standardization (ISO/IEC) consist of China's Ministry of State Security (MSS) experts working with the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) to establish ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 27 (Information security, cybersecurity and privacy protection) standards? This sounds like a conflict of interest to me. Introducing, Hongsong Shi Director of the China Information Technology Security Evaluation Center, the cover identity of the 13th Bureau of the Ministry of State Security. Hongsong Shi as an ISO/IEC expert is recently working on the standardization of QKD technology and Common Criteria (i.e., ISO/IEC 15408). He is one of the editors of ISO/IEC 23837-2 (Test and evaluation methods of QKD) and ISO/IEC 15408-2 (Security functional components).
