💡 Meet the Chloris Tech Team, the powerhouse behind the Chloris Technology! Jarrod Wong is the Head of Engineering and the Founding Engineer at Chloris. He has led the development of our software and infrastructure for petabyte-scale data processing from day one. In his daily work, Jarrod manages the engineering team, coordinates the efforts of the science team, and aligns technical work with the commercial team and product development. Jarrod also continues to do hands-on technical work, primarily focused on the distributed computing systems that form the backbone of Chloris’s data transformation and machine learning workflows. Jarrod’s degree is in Computer Science with a specialization in Data Science and a minor in Environmental Science. Jenny Fung is a Senior Full-stack Software Engineer at Chloris. She brings 10 years of experience building geospatial web applications for government, nonprofit, academic, and private sector clients and has a Bachelor's in environmental biology and international studies. At Chloris, she builds innovative, user-friendly features into the Platform that enhance how customers can interact with Chloris data. Recently, she’s focused on enabling direct exploration of biomass maps within the Platform. #dreamteam #startup #geospatial

Happy to start the week by announcing we are new proud members of IETA! IETA (International Emissions Trading Association) is a non-profit business group championing the power of high integrity markets to reach net-zero targets. We look forward to collaborating with member companies and "making net-zero possible" through ambition and cooperation. 🗽 This fall, we will also be at IETA's North America Climate Summit (September 24-26) during #NYCW2024. If you plan on being in the city, let's connect at NACS! #netzero #naturepositive #NACS2024

A recent study led by Ovidiu Csillik, used data from several repeated high-resolution airborne laser scanning missions across Brazil’s Arc of Deforestation to quantify the impacts of human activities and natural disturbances on forest carbon loss. The two main key findings of the paper? 1️⃣ In the southern Brazilian Amazon, forest degradation releases 5 times more carbon than deforestation 2️⃣ Indigenous territories and protected areas are effective in preventing anthropogenic degradation At Chloris, we fully support these conclusions and emphasize the importance of monitoring all carbon gains and losses, including those from degradation and disturbances. Monitoring forest carbon changes beyond deforestation, at scale, with operational resolution, over long time series, and in a cost-effective way is essential for climate finance and policy. 💡 Meet the Chloris Tech Team, the powerhouse behind the Chloris Technology! Adam Sibley is a Remote Sensing Scientist with a doctorate in plant ecophysiology and a postdoc focused on forest remote sensing. At Chloris Geospatial Adam collaborates across the science and engineering teams to develop techniques which turn large streams of raw data into robust aboveground biomass estimates. He works on all the moving parts, from developing methods to ensure the quality of our input data streams, to verifying that our biomass predictions reflect reality on-the-ground. He is also an integral part of the development of our machine learning models and new products for customers which translate observed forest carbon gains into metrics that are useful for the carbon market. Vishal T. brings a versatile skill set to Chloris, built from years of experience in complex, large-scale enterprise environments, with a focus on building big data infrastructure and distributed computing to power ML business initiatives. Since joining Chloris, he has grown to become a masterful resource in all things AWS, helping to improve system reliability and performance. Vishal loves to code, holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, and has always had a strong passion for DevOps and learning the latest and greatest technologies. #dreamteam #startup #geospatial

💡 Meet the Chloris Tech Team, the powerhouse behind the Chloris Technology! Felix Greifeneder is an experienced remote sensing scientist with a PhD in Remote Sensing. Throughout his academic career he developed a method for mapping surface soil moisture using radar data and machine learning. At Chloris he works on constantly improving and analyzing our data products, leading the development of most of their components, from preprocessing satellite images to feature extraction and model training. His bread-and-butter is to design methodologies and workflows that are the basis for a scientifically sound and scalable product. David Harris is an expert in spatial data maintenance, who brings experience in GIS and software to the Chloris team, where he works as a backend engineer. His work focuses on maintaining and improving the processing and storage of the (many!) petabytes of data the Chloris product relies on, and more recently, he has been a valuable contributor in processing our new 24-year time series and above-ground biomass in the Amazon Basin. He has a MS in geospatial data science and focused his studies on examining neighborhood-based inequities in urban environments. He sees the global climate catastrophe as the ultimate example of place-based environmental justice. #dreamteam #startup #geospatial

At Chloris we are strong proponents of moving beyond the use of activity data and emission factors as emission estimation methodologies, as they only see one part of the story. These approaches work well in capturing deforestation, but their categorical nature is very limited in estimating the impact of degradation and re-growth, processes that have very significant impact on the carbon stored in the landscape. That is why our technology is built to directly estimate all carbon stock and change, capturing all emissions and removals, including those coming from degradation, growth, and regrowth of trees. Here’s what you need to do: 📈 Track biomass growth and carbon removals 👀 Conduct yearly monitoring of the dynamic baseline with performance benchmark project-to-control plots comparison 🔢 Calculate ex-post for reporting and estimate ex-ante removals potential for following periods If you followed our ARR Project series, you know that Chloris can support you every step of the way—from project screening, through development, to monitoring. If you missed our previous case studies, check here for Project Screening https://lnkd.in/d4eVZ5x5 and Project Design https://lnkd.in/daUb6dRB . In this ARR Project example, we show how Chloris tracks biomass growth over time. Our platform displays growth at the pixel level, with green pixels turning blue and dark blue, indicating an increasing amount of CO2. #naturebasedsolutions #remotesensing #removals
