Christ in the City

In the time between graduating from Texas A&M University and starting work at Lockheed Martin I got to spend my summer with Christ in the City. Through this, I got the opportunity to walk the streets of Denver four times a week and build relationships with those experiencing homelessness. Since I walked the same streets several times a week, the friendships I built with my homeless friends were deep and meaningful. I got to share daily life with them and hear some of their greatest joys along with their greatest sorrows. While I could not solve most of the problems they were experiencing, I could offer myself in relationship and therefore affirm their inherent human dignity which is so often overlooked. As I offered myself in friendship, they also reciprocated in loving me well. The generosity and thoughtfulness of my friends on the streets will leave a lasting impact on me, and has inspired me in more ways than I can count. This summer, I truly found a home among the homeless.
