About us
The Christian Community Service Center (CCSC) is a coalition of 39 Houston area churches whose collective mission is to serve the poor, hungry, disabled, and otherwise needy while respecting their religious, ethnic or cultural differences. CCSC was created out of faith and founded in the belief that we are called to help all of God’s children heart to heart and hand in hand.

The Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation and Ladies for Literacy Guild generously support CCSC's Jingle Bell Express program and CCSC President & CEO Michelle Shonbeck was happy to speak at the agency's Fall Membership Meeting this week and share stories of the Guild's impact on the children Jingle Bell Express serves. The Guild's more than 50 new members learned how Jingle Bell Express addresses play, literacy and hunger by providing toys and books to 2,500 children and a grocery gift card to their families. Recently, employees from EOG Resources visited CCSC for an amazing volunteer opportunity, assembling hygiene kits and preparing bags of beans and rice to distribute to Houstonians in need. Our generous friends at EOG also underwrote the cost for all of the day's projects. A huge shoutout to everyone who participated and contributed—your generosity and teamwork are what make CCSC’s initiatives so impactful! #CommunityService #GivingBack #MakingADifference #ccschouston

Earlier this year, our friends at EOG Resources generously provided funding for CCSC to create Hurricane Preparedness kits for those in need. Last month, the wonderful staff of CityRise/West University Baptist Church helped assemble 600 kits for distribution at our two food pantries. A HUGE thank you to both groups and to KHOU 11 for providing copies of its Hurricane Preparedness Guide 2024. Visitors to the food pantries loved receiving the reusable red tote bags, which included a first aid kit, flashlight, a reusable hot/cold gel pack, cans of tuna and a can opener, shelf-stable snack foods, a rain poncho and towel, work gloves, paper and pen, a mylar blanket, face masks, and a foldable water carrier. CCSC clients often struggle the most in a weather emergency and we are thankful to be able to provide them this additional assistance. #ccschouston #hurricaneprep #helpinghands

Spindletop Community Impact Partners' 4th Annual Virtual Summer Food Drive brought 1,200 pounds of nonperishable food to CCSC's two food pantries today. "We are proud to partner with CCSC to help families and children during the summer months when children are not receiving meals through school programs," Executive Director Lia Vallone said. CCSC thanks Spindletop Community Impact Partners, its volunteers, donors, sponsors, and Board of Directors for their longtime support of our mission to help Houstonians in need. And thanks to Lia and her nephew Marco for helping us get all that food on the truck!
