Construction Inclusion Week Day One - Commitment and Accountability week. To fully realize a culture of inclusion and belonging requires both leadership commitment and accountability to ourselves and others. Neither leadership nor accountability are top-down but rather shared responsibilities that each of us regardless of role, title or position can actively demonstrate. There are lots of examples and definitions for leadership. But at its most basic level leadership is the ability to influence others towards achieving a goal. Accountability is owning and accepting responsibility for one’s actions. When these are put in the context of diversity, equity and inclusion, it means we all have a part to play. All of us being leaders, modeling the behavior we want to see in others and influencing others towards the goal of a more inclusive society; and holding ourselves and others accountable to actions that help inspire and achieve that vision. https://lnkd.in/d3riPRC #constructioninclusionweek.

World Mental Health Day is a global initiative dedicated to raising awareness about mental health issues and promoting overall well-being. This day serves as a reminder that mental health is as crucial as physical health and should not be stigmatized. You Are Not Alone. Everyone is impacted by mental health conditions – including the friends, family, and coworkers who don’t live with a mental health condition themselves. One in five adults in the U.S. experiences a mental health condition each year, which impacts those who know and love them. Since 1990, Americans have celebrated the first full week of October as Mental Illness Awareness Week after the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) lobbied Congress to create this critical awareness event. This year, Mental Illness Awareness Week is October 6 – 12 and World Mental Health Day is October 10. The Gov. Mario M. Cuomo / Tappan Zee Bridge will be lit green tonight, so if you take a photo, please tag NAMI Westchester Inc., @namiwestchester on Social Media. #worldmentalhealthday

Marijuana has gone from an illegal drug to a $33 billion industry today—and as more cannabis products are created, with increasingly intoxicating potency than those consumed just a decade ago, serious health and public safety consequences are growing. The Bottom Line: More people consume more cannabis more often, and more users are enduring serious health consequences. Employers need to become more vigilant on a variety of fronts because a larger percentage of people are stumbling around in a haze who are a danger to themselves and others. According to recently released data, the accumulated harm is broader and more severe that previously reported. As more people turn to marijuana for help with anxiety, depression and other mental health issues, may not be aware that it can cause temporary psychosis and is increasingly associated with the development of chronic psychotic disorders. Doctors at McLean Hospital in Belmont, Mass, report seeing more cases of schizophrenia that they are believed are linked to cannabis use. One doctor there described marijuana as a “benign substance for most people, but it is also a risk factor.” Addressing marijuana drug testing policies for employers in New York State, Clarity Testing, Inc., based in Elmsford, NY reported that employers may need to review and potentially revise their drug testing policies because off-duty use of recreational cannabis is now legal. “THC, the active ingredient in cannabis, can stay in a person’s system after intoxication wears off. How long the presence of THC stays in the user’s system can vary depending on how frequently or for how long a period they have been using.” The law does not provide exemptions for general “safety sensitive” positions, but exceptions are in place if action would cause the employer to be in violation of federal law or results in the loss of a federal contract or federal funding, the company noted. “Employers can enforce policies prohibiting the use, possession, transfer, or sale of marijuana at work. Additionally, employers can enforce prohibitions against impairment during work hours or at the workplace, or while using the employer’s equipment or other property.” Finally, cannabis use among employees in manufacturing and construction requires special protocols and priorities. Employers in these sectors should prioritize safety, compliance and clear communication when addressing cannabis use in the workplace. By implementing effective policies and practices, employers can minimize risks and maintain a safe and productive work environment, Clarity Testing Services advises.
