A Tucson-based nonprofit creating equitable access to the economy. We focus on housing, entrepreneurship, and education.

About us

Community Investment Corporation (CIC) is a nonprofit dedicated to the financial empowerment of Pima County and the surrounding area since 1996. We give the members of our community, who are shut out of and left behind in our economy, access to the knowledge and financing they need to pursue new opportunities. Committed to expanding economic opportunities, we pursue three distinct program areas that are foundational to individual and community well-being: • HOUSING: Helping aspiring homeowners through tax credits and down payment assistance. • ENTREPRENEURSHIP: Providing much needed financing to small businesses and nonprofits, as well as, introducing innovative systems to promote private investment in early stage businesses. • EDUCATION: Assisting schools with access to capital, bond compliance, and family engagement CIC unlocks the door to prosperity for all members of our community to meaningfully participate in our powerful but imperfect capitalist economic system and reclaim the American Dream. WE KNOW YOUR WORTH The System May Not Recognize Your Value, But We Do. Our goal is to promote economic inclusion for all members of southern Arizona, regardless of socioeconomic status. We will achieve it by leveraging our financial and knowledge capital into the areas of our local economy where expansion of access is desperately needed. Specifically, our work ensures that more people in our community can buy homes, can access the education they want for their children, and can get the funding they need to start, sustain, and grow their small businesses. The guiding principle we live by is: Nobody who has the desire and diligence to participate in our economy should ever be on the outside looking in.

We're so thankful to have had a seat at Governor Katie Hobbs Round Table yesterday afternoon, hosted at Startup Tucson. Southern Arizona’s small business ecosystem partners shared with the Governor the collaboration and innovation that we are doing individually and collectively implementing to increase access to capital and ensure the likelihood of entrepreneurial success. The Governor listened and asked how the State could continue to support our work - even beyond the AOEO and SSBCI funding that is supporting small business lending in Southern Arizona now. Thanks to the Governor’s Southern Arizona office including Marisol Flores-Aguirre and Nathalia Untiveros as well as the Governor's policy aide, Ian O’Grady. Partners that attended the discussion were Tucson Industrial Development Authority, YWCA Southern Arizona , City of Tucson and Startup Tucson. Photos from Startup Tucson

Committed to connecting potential to opportunity throughout Arizona - Pre-K to gray!

Today, The Earnest House was honored to host Governor Katie Hobbs and her incredible team as they toured our newest transitional home. Thanks to a generous small business loan from Groundswell Capital and the CIC, we’ve been able to expand our mission and open this home, providing support to 17 individuals on their recovery journey. During the visit, our staff had the opportunity to share their personal stories and how our program has positively impacted their lives. But, this home represents more than just a roof over someone’s head; it has the capacity to alleviate over 6,000 nights of homelessness annually in our community. Today’s visit highlights the power of investing in local organizations, enabling us to tackle challenges like homelessness and recovery.

As mortgage rates change, it's essential to know that homeowners can keep their Mortgage Credit Certificate (MCC) when refinancing! This means MCC holders can continue to benefit from significant tax credits, helping them save money!! For more detailed information on how to navigate this process and maximize your savings, check out azmcc.org.

Last Friday at the 2024 Copper Cactus Awards presented by Tucson Metro Chamber, we're thankful to have won the Innovation in IT Solutions Award. This recognition celebrates our revenue-based finance program, Success Through Alternative Capital (STAC), which empowers un-bankable entrepreneurs with access to fairly priced loans that help their businesses grow. By de-emphasizing collateral and credit in the underwriting process, STAC addresses wealth disparities often linked to race, ethnicity, gender, and geography, fostering an inclusive economy where everyone can pursue their entrepreneurial dreams. A special thanks to our partners, Startup Tucson and Common Future, for their vital role in making this work possible. We are honored to have been in this category alongside US Air Tech (USAT), Health Information Management Systems, and Hughes Federal Credit Union—businesses whose innovative work also drives meaningful change in our community. Together, these organizations represent the power of collaboration and the collective impact we have on building a thriving, inclusive ecosystem.

Today, on National Food Bank Day, let's celebrate the incredible work of food banks across our nation! Food banks are more than just places that provide meals; they are change makers, addressing both the symptoms and root causes of hunger and poverty. The Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona has a farmers’ market, community gardens, nutrition education, culinary training, support for local growers and food systems, advocacy, and more. We are proud to partner with the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona, as we not only address the symptoms of economic inequity, but work toward disrupting the inequitable systems that perpetuate the cycle of poverty. Let's give a big shout-out to all the volunteers, donors, and staff who make these vital community hubs possible. Together, we can make our world a kinder, more equitable place. Happy Labor Day! Did you know that the first Labor Day celebration was a protest for worker’s rights? 🛠️✊ It's a day to honor the progress made in workers' rights, but it's also a reminder that the fight for livable wages, safe conditions, and dignity on the job is far from over. Today, we stand in solidarity with workers across the nation who are still fighting for their rights, especially all of the workers who clock in on federal holidays like Labor Day. The labor movement has a proud history of making positive change, and we're committed to supporting workers' movements that continue that legacy. 💪🌹 Let's celebrate the achievements of the past and keep pushing for a future where every worker is treated with fairness, respect, and dignity. CIC is closed Monday, September 2, 2024.

“I recommend utilizing the program for first-time homebuyers and to take advantage of pretty much anything (down payment assistance) that is going to be readily available in your local city,” said Fabiola Bedoya, a first-time homebuyer. In this testimonial, Fabiola discusses her experience working with CIC's dedicated Homeownership team and how they guided her through every step of the process. At CIC, we're committed to fighting for fair housing and breaking down barriers to homeownership in Arizona. Watch Fabiola’s full testimonial here : https://lnkd.in/gMZUQp4B
