We are proud to join The National Association of Healthcare Quality (NAHQ) and our fellow professionals working in healthcare quality and safety around the world, in celebrating #HealthcareQualityWeek. This year’s theme is the Power of Q, Power of You. CIMRO is committed to our mission to support improvements in the delivery of quality health care. We are honored to have had the opportunity to partner with clients for more than 50 years, supporting safe, high-quality care delivery and continued improvements through our evidence-based independent external peer reviews. We hope this week provides an opportunity to reflect on the hard work and the positive impact being made in the lives of so many through the pursuit of quality health care.

In Old England, September was called “Haervest-monath,” meaning “Harvest Month.” Some of best crops to harvest in September are: Pumpkins. Illinois, where CIMRO has its headquarters, is the top pumpkin-producing state in the country. Pumpkins boost the immune system, protect eyesight, lower the risk of certain cancers, and promote heart and skin health. Apples. According to Cleveland Clinic, an apple (or more) a day can help stabilize blood sugar, lower cholesterol, reduce blood pressure, and ease inflammation. Tomatoes. The National Institutes of Health has published extensive lists of the benefits of eating this antioxidant-packed fruit, aka Solanum lycopersicum. Tomatoes contain anticancer properties, and contribute to cardiovascular and skin health. They help fight neurodegenerative diseases, and reduce the risk of inflammatory bowel diseases. Tomatoes also have health benefits in relation to their effects on diabetes, immune response, exercise recovery, and fertility. Raspberries. These little berries have big health benefits, including helping to fight heart and circulatory disease. Onions. They may make you cry when their methionine and cystine are released during cutting, but their antioxidants and other compounds bring joy to your heart by fighting inflammation and lowering cholesterol levels. Onions also make it easier for the body to produce insulin.

Stephen Nedoroscik has been dubbed “Clark Kent” by some for the way he removed his glasses and centered himself before pommel-horse routines that earned him two medals in this summer’s Olympics. And while his extraordinary prowess on the horse has earned him international recognition, the attention he has brought to eye health has made him a hero to another audience. Nedoroscik has strabismus and coloboma – meaning his eyes are misaligned, and some tissue is missing from his eyes. He has related to news outlets stories of young fans with these conditions who have found a role model in him. And the timing couldn’t be better. August is Children’s Eye Health and Safety Month, and the National Eye Institute is out to make children into eye-health champions. Check out their Web site as it offers features, such as optical illusions, “cool eye tricks,” videos on animal eyes and what your eyes do when you sleep, as well as tips on first aid, sports and your eyes, and healthy vision. https://lnkd.in/eMCkz5R

It’s the time of year when parents check off the items on their children’s back-to-school lists: Notebooks, folders, crayons … immunizations. August is National Immunization Awareness Month, an annual observance highlighting the importance of getting recommended vaccines at various life stages. The Centers for Disease control and Prevention is marking the month with its “Let’s RISE (Routine Immunizations on Schedule for Everyone) program. The aim is to help adults and children get on schedule with routine vaccinations. More information is available at: https://lnkd.in/eUDxa4C.

Alzheimer’s disease casts deep shadows on those it affects – patients and their loved ones alike. The Alzheimer’s Association aims to let the light of hope rise on 2024’s longest day, June 20, and all through Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness Month. The Association’s 'The Longest Day Initiative' encourages fundraising efforts to end the disease that affects nearly 7 million Americans. Ideas for raising awareness and support can be found at www.alz.org. The site also offers resources for use in June and every day, including information on volunteer opportunities, legislation affecting care of those with Alzheimer’s and early signs and symptoms of the disease. Some of the tips are as simple as sharing your story, and concluding social-media posts with a reminder of the mission to #ENDALZ.

This week, we would like to honor and celebrate risk-management professionals. Health Risk Management (HRM) Week is June 17-21, 2024, and this year’s theme is “Risk Professionals: Prioritizing Safety, Mitigating Risk.” The week celebrates health-care risk professionals – those who work to ensure safe patient care and the well-being of staff. Roles within risk management range widely, from developing patient-safety plans for individual facilities to influencing legislation that affects the field of healthcare. For more information, including Webinars from health-risk professionals, visit https://lnkd.in/d2NkhTt. #HRMWeek
