As we continue to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, we are proud to feature Kellys Vargas, one of our DC Managers at our Darlington Distribution Center. Her unique perspective and dedication have made a significant impact on our team. In this Q&A, Kellys reflects on her heritage, career journey, and the values that guide her. Join us in celebrating Kellys' story! Q: What do you love most about your job?  A: I love everything about my job, communicating with buyers, doing research, sharing my knowledge with other associates, so they can also grow and move up within the company and help to make it better. Q: Can you tell us about a tradition or custom from your culture that you enjoy participating in? A: Hispanic people are very family oriented and also very friendly. There is one tradition that we celebrate in Colombia with our families and our neighbors that I really love participating in, " La novena de Aguinaldos" , from December 16 to December 24. During each night of the novena, families and friends pray, eat, and sing villancicos ( Christmas carols) together, often accompanied by musical instruments. Every night the novena is celebrated in a different house and at the end of the novena on December 24, the kids will received gifts like toys and candy. Q: What challenges have you faced in your career?  A: At the beginning it was really a challenge learning the language and trying to communicate and share my ideas with other associates and managers. Once I learned it, that helped me to be able to move up in my career within the company. Q: What has been your most meaningful accomplishment so far?  A: Being promoted to manager of the Quality Control and Receiving departments. Being able to start from the bottom and learn, grow and move up all the way until being in charge of the department, and create a team that works together, always trying to do what is best for the department and for Cititrends, I think that it is my most meaningful accomplishment so far. Q: How do you celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, and what does it mean to you personally? A: I like to go to the festivals that are celebrated throughout this month in honor of the Hispanic heritage, meet new people and make new friends. It means a lot to me the fact that our different cultures and traditions are recognized and celebrated, because we are all Hispanics, but we all have differences between us too. Q: What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received, either professionally or personally? A: The advice that I have always received both personally and professionally is "be patience". I am a very impatient person; when something needs to be done, it has to be done immediately and sometimes is not possible. So I have to remind myself to be patience. #HispanicHeritageMonth #AssociateSpotlight #EmployeeSpotlight #CitiTrends #CelebratingDiversity

After learning the position I knew I was up to the challenge.
