Citizens Committee for New York City’s mission is simple: to help New Yorkers – especially those in low-income areas – come together and improve the quality of life in their neighborhoods. As we conclude Climate Week, we’d like to recognize the leadership support of Con Edison. Con Edison shares our commitment to confront the threat that climate change poses to our communities and help New Yorkers adapt to a changing world, specifically by prioritizing locally led environmental stewardship. ConEd’s leadership support is making it possible for us to invest in dozens of climate focused projects, including community gardens, local farms, and pocket parks. Today, they joined us to volunteer at Bronx Sunshine Garden to help Maritza, Manny, and a team of volunteer gardeners get ready for a series of fall community events. Partnership is at the heart of our work, and we’re grateful to ConEd for their investment in neighborhood-level leadership.

A powerful, nourishing discussion on Food System Innovations, Disruptions, and Transparency between CEO Julie L. Shapiro, Board Chair Chris Ruggeri, and iDig2Learn founder Christina Delfico, one of our grantee partners for Deloitte's 2024 Climate Week panel. The most common types of community projects we fund at CitizensNYC have to do with sustainability and climate resilience. In 2024 CitizensNYC awarded more than 50 Community Leaders Grants to partners who identified environment and climate as the primary focus of their project. That includes leaders like Christina Delfico. These projects include community gardens, school-based ecology clubs, healthy local food initiatives, tree planting and beautification efforts, and community-driven recycling and reuse projects. We couldn’t do this work without the generosity of partners like Deloitte. Climate change is a global challenge but it can be tackled locally. We’re proud to work with so many leaders doing that work. Many thanks again to our Board Chair and Deloitte principal Chris Ruggeri for putting this together.

Kicking off #ClimateWeek Deloitte - honored to share the stage with strong, active leaders working toward positive change in our food systems and beyond. Sustainability guru @chrisruggeri and Citizens Committee for New York City CEO @julielshapiro know how to move mountains. From grassroots ground up to global they know personal responsibility coupled with corporate responsibility leads to healthy people and planet. As founder of iDig2Learn, now in our second decade of programming to better understand the origin of our food and how to waste less of it, we deeply appreciate the platform side by side these leaders and their support to expand our high nature - low waste work in the field.
Strengthening organizational leadership, driving strategic operations through elegant workflows, raising funds and growing visibility to expand impact, and project managing the bejesus out of pretty much anything.

Good morning, LinkedIn family! As VP of Programs at Citizens Committee for New York City, I help provide microgrants and capacity-building workshops to grassroots leaders—many of whom are volunteers improving their neighborhoods but don’t qualify for traditional funding. If you work for a company that does corporate giving, I'd love to chat about how we can partner to get resources directly to those making an impact in our city. DM me if you're interested! Check out some of our grantee partners on our website to get a sense of the folks we support! -

Each year, CitizensNYC partners with hundreds of community organizations, local small businesses, and New Yorkers who just want to help out in their neighborhoods. Our microgrants are at the core of what we do. For 50 years, we’ve been asking New Yorkers, “what could you do to improve your neighborhood?” We continue to be impressed by the creative range of answers we get every year. We’ve learned to invest in the insights and expertise of the people who know their communities best. The people best equipped to solve problems in their neighborhood are the people who live there. Our microgrants do more than fund projects; they are investments in the potential of people to transform their environment - to transform it from the way it is to the way it ought to be. Each grant serves as a building block for broader community resilience, fostering initiatives that range from environmental sustainability to cultural enrichment and economic empowerment. Today we’re thrilled to congratulate our 2024 grantees! Over the coming days we’ll highlight some of the community leaders we’re partnering with this year. Join us in congratulating them all!
