I am proud of this!
Last month, we said hello to our LARGEST internship cohort! Each month, our Promise interns gather for a professional development day, where we work with them on their resume, interview skills and workplace skills. Thank you SO MUCH to our current employer partners for believing in the next generation and helping us provide these valuable internships to our students. Our program would not be possible without your partnership. Interested in getting involved with our internship program? Email us at info@birminghampromise.org.

Today, I had the honor of standing alongside President Biden and Vice President Harris at the White House as they signed an executive order addressing the growing threat of gun violence, including the use of illegal machine gun conversion devices like the ones that have plagued Birmingham. Gun violence has devastated my family’s life in ways that will never heal. I’ve heard the cries of a mother after losing her child — my own mother’s cries when we lost my brother to this senseless violence. It’s a pain that never leaves you. This past weekend, I heard those same cries again as four lives were stolen during a horrific mass shooting. Birmingham, this is our fight — together. We’ve worked with our U.S. Attorney and the Department of Justice to get these devices off our streets, but it's not enough. We need bold, urgent action from everyone, and we need it now. We cannot accept this as our reality any longer. We must continue to fight for safer communities, for stronger gun laws, and for a future where our families don’t have to live in fear. We will not stop until we loosen the grip of gun violence on our city. I will continue to call for changes in our local, state, and federal systems and lobby for every available resource to combat this crisis. Thank you to President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris for being true partners to our city and standing with us in this fight. #puttingpeoplefirst

Page Pals Launch Week was a success! We are excited to see our community step up to ensure students across the Birmingham City Schools district can read at or above grade level! We wrapped up Launch Week with a reading for a new book that is slated to be added to classroom libraries across the district. The book, entitled, Morning in the Magic City, was created by the 2024 graduates of Leadership Birmingham(cohort-Magic Reimagined). If you are interested in volunteering with Page Pals, visit https://lnkd.in/gFDWpBfY to find out more information and to sign up for shifts at participating schools! #PuttingYouthFirst #puttingpeoplefirst
