As our thoughts remain with those affected by Hurricane Helene, departments throughout the City of Charlotte are doing their part to lend a hand. 1. Charlotte Water Assistance: Our Charlotte Water team is a part of NCWaterWARN and is providing crucial support to utilities in Western North Carolina including sending two 24” butterfly valves critical for restoring drinking water service. 2. Airport Support: Charlotte Douglas International Airport staff are traveling to Asheville to assist their airport operations. This support will help maintain critical transportation links for the region. 3. Emergency Services: Both our Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department and Charlotte Fire Department have dispatched personnel to the affected areas. These brave men and women are providing vital assistance in maintaining public safety and responding to emergencies. We encourage residents to join us in assisting relief and recovery efforts throughout N.C. If you feel inclined to help, please use the following link: http://cltgov.me/recovery Photos provided by the organizations listed above.

At the request of the North Carolina Office of State Fire Marshal and in partnership with the city of Asheville, the Charlotte Fire Department is proud to send our personnel to support structural firefighting efforts in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. With the devastating impact on Asheville, their fire department is pausing services for a week so they can focus on their own recovery. Charlotte Fire will staff three of the 17 companies Asheville is putting into service. In just 8 hours, we had an overwhelming response—208 dedicated members volunteered to help. From that group, 12 firefighters have been selected to represent Charlotte Fire in this crucial effort. Our team’s commitment to helping others is nothing short of inspiring. Thank you to our firefighters for your incredible spirit of service!

Join us for a #DayWithoutDriving on October 3! Experience a different commute on Oct. 3 with members of Charlotte City Council, the Metropolitan Transit Commission, and the Mecklenburg County Board of Commissioners to better understand the daily challenges that people who do not drive encounter. Day Without Driving is an educational awareness campaign inspired by the week-long national challenge (weekwithoutdriving.org) that focuses on reflection, knowledge, and understanding of the needs of people who don't drive, which includes one-third of residents in Mecklenburg County. We encourage residents to commit to one day without driving in solidarity with our neighbors who must reach their destinations every day without driving. This means taking trips to work and other activities by walking, taking the bus or light rail, riding a bike or scooter, carpooling, or hailing a taxi or rideshare to get to your destinations. This applies to all activities, not just work commutes! In addition to participating, please take the pledge at cltgov.me/DWDPledge-24 and share your experience with family, friends, colleagues, the public, and on social media on Thursday, Oct. 3! Use #DayWithoutDrivingCLT. Sustain Charlotte | Charlotte Area Transit System | Mecklenburg County | #CLTCC #CRTPO

As our city continues to grow, the City of Charlotte strives to create policies, programs, and resources to help ensure that all residents can benefit from that growth and stay in their homes—should they choose to—as their communities evolve. We must... ◾ Produce housing for residents at all income levels. ◾ Preserve the affordable housing that already exists. ◾ Protect current residents and businesses from displacement. View our Anti-Displacement Community Toolkit, a list of programs and resources to help residents with neighborhood and household stability, at cltgov.me/communitytoolkit.

We're continuing our celebration of #InternationalDayOfSignLanguages by highlighting the incredible work of the interpreters at the Children's Theatre of Charlotte! The Children's Theatre of Charlotte, a two-time #InfusionFund recipient, offers American Sign Language-interpreted shows for most of its Mainstage productions—including its current production of School of Rock (Oct. 5). A professional ASL interpreter, like Lyndi Patton, reads the script and views the show ahead of time to ensure an accurate interpretation. These special shows help guarantee access to arts and culture for all Charlotteans. To view upcoming ASL-interpresed shows and purchase tickets, visit cltgov.me/CTofC-ASL. #AmericanSignLanguage #ChildrensTheatre #ArtsandCulture #CLTCulture Foundation For The Carolinas
