There’s a brand-new festival in town this weekend that celebrates two favorite things in The Cov: bourbon and inclusivity. Bourbon & Belonging happens all across Kentucky this weekend, and there will be no shortage of fun to be had here in our backyard. And that's not all. There’s also a neighborhood pumpkin sale, a cool art class, a 5K, a meteor shower to watch, live music, art exhibits, and more happening. Check it all out in This Weekend in #LoveTheCov. https://bit.ly/3NfWEqw

The 2024 FotoFocus Biennial brings some cool new exhibits to The Cov this weekend, but if you prefer making your own art, you can do that too (maybe in a roomful of kittens). Thirsty? Braxton Brewing Company is releasing its BonBonerie Opera Cream Stout, while the Old Kentucky Bourbon Bar brings out a single barrel release of Buzzard Roost. You can also learn about Eastside neighborhood trees, take in some great live music, feast on a fine brunch, and a whole lot more This Weekend in #LoveTheCov. https://bit.ly/4eh2LHi

Carmelo's, an Italian restaurant, is slated to open in November at 434 Madison Ave., in Covington, in a nearly 4,000-square-foot former office space. The restaurant is the creation of hospitality industry veterans Billy Grise, formerly with Thunderdome Restaurant Group, and Mitch Arens, the founder and executive chef of Southernly, a local private chef company. Carmelo's is named after Grise’s grandfather, who immigrated to the U.S. from Italy and opened his own restaurant. Carmelo’s will employ around 50 to 60 employees. The restaurant seats around 135 people, with a patio that provides 20 to 40 additional seats. It will be open Tuesday through Thursday from 4-10 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 4-11 p.m. and Sunday from 4-9 p.m. https://lnkd.in/gCax_8pm

COMING HOME WITH THE GOLD, SILVER, AND BRONZE. Covington Economic Development Director Tom West, AICP and the City's Business Attraction Manager Susan B. Smith are in Denver, Colorado this week for the International Economic Development Council's (IEDC) 2024 Annual Conference., and they'll come home with 5 (count 'em, 5!) IEDC Excellence in Economic Development Awards (which we announced a couple of weeks ago in a news release). The City's Economic Development Department was one of only three organizations to win five awards, which was the highest number of awards bestowed this year. The IEDC, which is the world’s largest council of economic development professionals, honored the City's work on: - The emerging Covington Central Riverfront neighborhood. - The Covington Academy of Heritage Trades. - And the Economic Development Department’s new website, 2023 “Impact Report,” and Spanish translation of its business guide. It bears repeating that these awards continue the momentum of a series of hard-earned recognitions that seemed a long time coming. For years, the boyhood home of one of Covington’s most celebrated sons – the internationally known painter, sculptor, and art instructor Frank Duveneck – has been gradually falling apart and fading into oblivion. But now, after a fight that has stretched on for about eight years, a Kenton Circuit judge has given the City of Covington the legal authority to move in and stabilize the building and in so doing preserve a piece of history important not only to Covington but to the world. #FrankDuveneck #historichome #CovingtonKY #historicDuveneckhome https://bit.ly/4deaWm8
