Ever wonder what happens to your recyclables once they leave the curb? ♻️♻️♻️ We're excited to tell you all about it! A few weeks ago we visited a Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) in Grand Rapids and learned about their processes. In Detroit, our materials go to through a similar system at the RRRASOC facility in Southfield. Sad about the amount of materials that end up in the landfill? Us too. Luckily we have a drop-off facility called RecycleHere! at 5960 Lincoln St. where you can take unaccepted items like grocery bags and styrofoam to give them a second life. Need a recycling cart? Get one for FREE at ♻️ detroitrecycles.org ♻️ #DetroitSustainability #ReduceReuseRecycle #CityofDetroit #ClimateAction #TakePart

CALL TO ACTION: Help MPSC gather meaningful data by taking the State of Michigan Energy Efficiency & Electrification Needs Assessment. From MPSC: “The Michigan Public Service Commission’s (MPSC) Energy Waste Reduction: Low Income Workgroup, in partnership with several energy efficiency stakeholders in Michigan, are seeking a deeper understanding of the capacity and needs of skilled contractors and related workers in our energy efficiency and electrification landscape. If you are a contractor, workforce development agency, or otherwise involved in the energy efficiency and electrification ecosystem - we need your help! The group has developed a short survey aimed at assessing how prepared contractors and other stakeholders in this industry feel to support the forthcoming programs funded through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL), Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), and other clean energy initiatives. The survey results will: - Provide data about the distribution of skill sets, roles, and capacity across the state - Identify areas where training and development resources would be beneficial - Establish metrics and data that can support future funding - Expedite the delivery of clean energy benefits to all Michigan residents This survey will take approximately 10 to 15 minutes. The group will utilize a data-driven approach with this needs assessment to comprehensively characterize the projected workforce needs and barriers in the residential energy efficiency and electrification sector. All individual responses will remain confidential. Data and aggregated results of the survey will be anonymized.” Take the assessment here: https://lnkd.in/gfeqrpDd Michigan Public Service Commission

🌱🌍 Sustainability in Action! Last week, the Office of Sustainability participated in composting tours at the The Henry Ford and the Harvest Festival, focusing on sustainable practices and urban agriculture initiatives in Detroit. During the tours, the team learned about the museum's impressive composting system, which processes up to 1,100 pounds of food waste daily from its restaurant and repurposes it directly into farm fields through an aerobic digester. At the Harvest Festival, over 20 new farmers and green space creators were signed up to explore the permitting process for establishing farms and gardens in the city, further supporting Detroit’s green initiatives. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/e_S9a7qM The week-long engagement showcased our commitment to fostering sustainability, strengthening community partnerships, and expanding urban agriculture efforts across Detroit. 🍃 #UrbanAg #Composting #SustainableDetroit #GreenSpaces #DetroitFarmers #OfficeOfSustainability #HenryFordMuseum #HarvestFestival #Detroit
