We were happy to host staff from the League of Minnesota Cities (LMC) and our neighboring communities this morning to discuss issues impacting our area. The LMC, which represents more than 800 member cities, serves its membership through advocacy, education and training, policy development, risk management, and other services. A special thanks to Luke Fischer, LMC Executive Director, Justin Miller, LMC President and City of Lakeville, Minnesota - Government City Administrator, and Daniel Lightfoot, Senior Intergovernmental Relations Representative, for continuing the long-standing relationship of working together for the betterment of our communities. By having these informal conversations about topics important to member cities, the League can better represent the City while advocating for communities like us at the Legislature.

Thank you to all who attended yesterday’s groundbreaking ceremony for the City’s newest attraction, Viaduct Park. This ceremony celebrated the years of work it took to get to where we are today, starting with City and community leaders crafting a handful of long-range plans that proposed a downtown, river-side park, to the community task force fine-tuning the park plans and amenities which will soon sit in the shadow of the Hwy. 60 viaduct. The 2.7-acre park will feature a splash pad, park building/restrooms, green space, and many decorative touches, in phase one. The recreational opportunities and other general public use of the park and splashpad (outside of reserved, exclusive use for private events) will be free of charge for participation, and are anticipated to open to the public in 2025. The Faribault City Council has requested City staff continue pursuing a phase two refrigerated skating surface that would guarantee ice during winter months, while also providing ample opportunities for use during summer months. A decision on phase two will come at a later date once the skating surface design has been reworked. In addition to City leaders and community members in attendance yesterday, individuals from the Jennie-O Turkey Store, Crooked Pint, and RJR Faribo Insurance Agency and more attended to announce they’ve pledged to support the park through monetary donations to the City through the Faribault Foundation, which is working to raise funds to help fund the park. DONORS: The Crooked Pint – Mark Lancaster and Manager Angie Goren – Fire Pit and Benches RJR Faribo Insurance Company Mark Lancaster - Patio Dr. Richard and Nancie Huston – Shade Table Jennie-O – Managers Jody Long and Mustafa Abdille and crew – Concessions/ Skate Rental Rice County Sherriff’s Association donated and will be named on a donor wall. To learn more about how the Foundation is providing opportunities for businesses, organizations, families, and individuals to participate and be recognized as part of this important community project, visit its website: https://lnkd.in/ggCMcASS
