Detective Jason Greathead has been with the City of Gilroy for ten years, drawn to the department after meeting Chief Espinoza, then a sergeant, during his time at the police academy. Impressed by the leadership, department quality, and strong community relationships, Jason found Gilroy the perfect place to build his law enforcement career. As a detective, Jason spends much of his time reviewing case information, piecing together investigations, and helping solve major crimes. His role also involves assisting patrol officers and neighboring agencies and responding to crime scenes. The challenge of solving complex cases and providing answers to families and the community is what Jason finds most rewarding about his job. Additionally, he takes pride in being part of the SWAT team, where members push each other to excel both professionally and personally. Outside of work, Jason is involved in the Gilroy Little League, where he has been coaching since 2022. His team of 11-12-year-olds achieved an impressive series of victories, winning several championships in their division. Inspired by Teddy Roosevelt’s "The Man in the Arena" speech, Jason advises those considering a career in public service to fully understand the commitment involved. He emphasizes that this career path requires dedication, a passion for serving the community, and the resilience to balance the personal sacrifices it demands. Meet Hipolito Olmos, our Building Official who has been proudly serving the City of Gilroy for the past 16 years! Having grown up right here in Gilroy, Hipolito always dreamed of giving back to the community that’s given so much to him and his family. In his day-to-day, you might find Hipolito reviewing plans for exciting new construction projects, working side by side with our Permit Technicians to process permits, or working closely with City Building Inspectors to ensure everything is up to code on-site. He also enjoys collaborating with architects, engineers, contractors, and property owners to ensure all projects meet safety and building standards. On top of all that, he works closely with the Code Enforcement team to address public concerns and ensure that our city’s regulations are followed, keeping Gilroy safe and vibrant. What Hipolito loves most about Gilroy is the tight-knit, small-town feel and the simple joys of walking through our beautiful parks, sending his kids to great schools, and waking up to the unmistakable smell of garlic in the air.
