🌞 Big news! State Reps. Carol Glanville, Rachel Hood, and Phil Skaggs presented Mayor Rosalynn Bliss and City Manager Mark Washington with a $3 million check at Butterworth Landfill, a fully remediated Superfund site. This funding will help transport solar energy from Butterworth to power City operations like street lighting and traffic signals. ⚡️ The City has worked for over a decade to install solar panels at the 180-acre site, which was closed in the 1970s and fully remediated in 2000. The project will help meet the City's goals of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 85% and reaching 100% renewable energy for City operations! 🌱 #Sustainability #RenewableEnergy #GRGreen #SolarPower

We're excited to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month! 🎉 Our Hispanic community is part of what makes Grand Rapids so special by contributing culturally and economically throughout our city’s history and continues to do so today. 👏 Mayor Rosalynn Bliss proclaimed September 15 to October 15 as Hispanic Heritage Month in Grand Rapids and called upon all residents to celebrate the profound impact of the Hispanic and Latino communities on our nation's past, present, and future. One way we recognized this was with the renaming of Grandville Ave to Cesar E. Chavez Ave two years ago. Construction is currently ongoing from Clyde Park to Hall Street, but the businesses are still open! Construction is anticipated to wrap up in early October. We have amazing Hispanic-owned businesses all throughout Grand Rapids. We encourage you to support these community members both this month and throughout the year.
