At its meeting Monday night, Johns Creek City Council unanimously approved the addition of a 175-guest room boutique hotel at Toro Development Company's Medley, a 43-acre mixed-use entertainment destination in the Johns Creek Town Center. City of Johns Creek Stormwater Utility Manager Cory Rayburn and Recreation & Parks Director Erica Madsen presented a session at the SESWA - Southeast Stormwater Association annual conference earlier this month about Creekside Park and its position to be an economic driver for future development in the Johns Creek Town Center. Located behind City Hall, the state-of-the-art Creekside Park project will feature an amphitheater, terraced seating areas for concert viewing, 15-foot-wide trails, pedestrian plazas, and pond overlooks. The amenities are connected by a boardwalk to a three-acre constructed wetland designed to improve water quality and provide regional stormwater detention for future development in the Town Center area. Collectively, these improvements will help make the Town Center a vibrant destination. Additionally, Recreation & Parks staff attended the National Recreation and Park Association conference in Atlanta recently. The City of Johns Creek congratulates one of its largest employers, Saia Inc. LTL Freight, which has been awarded the 2024 SmartWay Excellence Award by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Headquartered in Johns Creek, Saia was the sole recipient in the less-than-truckload (LTL) category, recognizing its leadership and continued commitment to reducing its environmental impact through innovative business practices as it operates over 210 terminals across the country. From sharing insights and ideas to discussing innovative ways to support local businesses, Johns Creek Economic Development Director Kim Allonce hosted a Business F1RST meeting this week with representatives from the Georgia Department of Economic Development, Georgia Power Company, Select Fulton, Johns Creek Chamber of Commerce, and the Johns Creek Convention & Visitors Bureau. Business F1RST meetings gather City staff, key stakeholders, community organizations, and resource partners to analyze trends and make recommendations to provide resources and address challenges. The group shared resources in an effort to support business growth and expansion in the City and exchanged ideas aimed to equip existing businesses with tools and resources they need to succeed. Economic Development is one of City Council’s strategic priorities, focusing on retention and expansion of existing businesses and leveraging the City’s position as a hub for health, wellness, and innovation to support the business community. The City of Johns Creek received a Fulton County Citizens Commission on the Environment (FCCCE) Award for City staff's implementation of sustainability initiatives and projects. The award, presented to Mayor Pro Tem Dilip Tunki by Fulton County Government County Commissioner Bridget Thorne during the FCCCE's Annual Award Ceremony this week, recognized the work of Johns Creek’s “Green Team,” comprised of City staff, for initiatives like recycling, waste reduction, green building and development, energy efficiency, tree canopy standards, and greenspace connectivity efforts. A summary proclamation for all of this year's winners was later presented at the Fulton County Commission meeting. Earlier this year, the City of Johns Creek was certified as a Green Community by the Atlanta Regional Commission. The City of Johns Creek is excited to celebrate our partner, Georgia Department of Transportation, on its recent award for the Rogers Bridge Pedestrian/Bike Crossing project at the Southern Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (SASHTO) conference recently. GDOT won the Quality of Life / Community Development Small Project Group award for bridge replacement project, which included disassembling and removing the existing steel bridge structure. The new pedestrian bridge is reconstructed in the same location as a replica of the original, which provides pedestrians with a connection across the Chattahoochee River from Cauley Creek Park to Rogers Park in Duluth/Gwinnett County.   Congratulations!

The City of Johns Creek had the distinct pleasure of presenting at the 2024 ICMA - International City/County Management Association conference. The session, titled "How to Move from Vision to Reality - Nurturing a Town Center to Life through Innovation, Engagement, and Collaboration", provided attendees with a greater understanding of the systematic and disciplined approach the City has taken in the development of its Town Center.
