Knoxville's African American Equity Restoration Task Force is looking to hire a Grant Specialist. The Grant Specialist is responsible for working with the Task Force and the City's Community Empowerment Department to coordinate all grant and grant-related activity including prospective grant research, proposal development and writing, proper submission and tracking, maintaining accurate and appropriate records, ensure compliance with the terms of grant agreements, and maintenance of relationships with appropriate personnel with Local, State and Federal agencies with oversight of grant programs. Knoxville Fire Department’s Swift Water Team was deployed to South Carolina this week ahead of Hurricane Debby. They are currently in Florence, SC assisting motorists who have become stranded in floodwaters. Thank you to this team of 12 dedicated individuals for volunteering to deploy on such short notice, as well as all other KFD employees and family members for the vital roles you have played in this deployment taking place. Your dedication to public safety is invaluable. The City of Knoxville appreciates you!

I recently completed an enriching internship where I was able to Intern for Judge Tyler Caviness , which provided me with a unique perspective on the legal system and the workings of the courtroom. This experience was part of a comprehensive program where interns were placed in various City of Knoxville departments, including mine, where I had the incredible opportunity to work alongside dedicated professionals. Throughout the internship, I was involved in a range of administrative and support tasks, gaining valuable insights into the operations of the City court. In addition to my hands-on work, I participated in weekly personal and professional development sessions covering essential topics such as civic education, economic mobility, mental health, communication, and social justice. These incredibly informative sessions helped broaden my understanding of critical societal issues. My internship ended with the presentation of my capstone research which was about implementing a youth participatory board. This experience not only deepened my appreciation for the legal field but also equipped me with practical skills and knowledge that will be invaluable in my future endeavors. Excited to see what my future holds🌟

After one week, we’re still thinking about our Summer in the City Internship program’s incredible end-of-summer presentations! In addition to working in their departments, these students worked in small groups to complete projects that examined the interconnecteness of the different City of Knoxville priorities: •Public Safety •Healthy & Connected Neighborhoods •A Clean and Resilient Future •Thriving Businesses and Good Jobs •Good Governance Their presentations were well-structured, impactful, and very creative. Congratulations to these talented students - we are thankful to have learned from you this summer!
