Cultural Equity Champion | Public-Private Partnership Strategist | Arts & Culture Innovator | Community Relations Catalyst

Memphis, my beloved city, just took a giant step forward. 🌟 Behind every new initiative is a story of people coming together. Our Office of Creative and Cultural Economy is no exception. It's a labor of love, born from our community's passion. As we welcome the incomparable DeMarcus Akeem Suggs as its first Director in our city's history, I can't help but feel a bit emotional. This journey? It's been a rollercoaster - challenging, rewarding, and yes, sometimes frustrating. But seeing DeMarcus step into this role? It makes my soul hum with joy. It has been an honor of a lifetime to be part of the team that laid the groundwork for this office. What started as an aspiration when I joined the Foundation seven years ago has blossomed into a reality. I'm deeply grateful for the opportunity to have been part of every stage – from co-chairing the transition team and making recommendations to the administration, to supporting fundraising efforts and helping select our Director. To our visionary Mayor Paul Young, thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for recognizing the impact of our city's greatest treasure and chief export- its culture. Your willingness to bet on something new is truly inspiring. To Mairi Albertson and Penelope Huston thank you for your tireless work to bring the vision to reality! To the amazing artists, entrepreneurs, and culture leaders who shared their dreams and perspectives to shape this work - you have my deepest gratitude! To the generous philanthropic donors who believed in this vision from the start and took the leap to support this work- I literally couldn't have done it without you. It really does take a village to build something meaningful, doesn't it? And this office-it's going to be a game-changer for our beloved Memphis. DeMarcus, my friend, I'm bursting with excitement to see how you'll shape our city's creative future. Congratulations! Here's to a brighter, more vibrant, more creative future for our beautiful city! 🎨🎭🎶 #CultureCity #MemphisCulture #ArtsCommunity #ArtsPolicyMatters https://lnkd.in/gYtCgdsT
