Deputy commissioner of public works / City Engineer The City of New Rochelle is seeking a responsible management professional to be the Deputy Commissioner of Public Works/City Engineer. This position shall be in charge of the Bureau of Engineering with responsibility for all municipal engineering design and construction projects. The incumbent shall be a civil engineer licensed to practice such under the laws of the State of New York. This is an important professional engineering, administrative and supervisory position involving responsibility for planning engineering activities on a large scale. The work is performed in accordance with general directions outlined by the Commissioner of Public Works or his representative. The incumbent is responsible for its overseeing and authorizing the design, construction and inspection of all engineering projects and programs. Directs, coordinates and schedules all phases of Engineering Projects. Provides technical advice on Engineering problems and on the advisability of engineering-oriented Capital Projects. Approves and authorizes all intermediate and final payments on contract construction Considerable leeway exists for the exercise of independent judgment in planning the details of projects and assuming responsibility for technical results. Prepares specifications for any work ordered by the Commissioner of Public Works to be performed by outside contractors. Does related work as required. The incumbent may serve as Commissioner in the absence or incapacity of the principal. Qualifications Four (4) year engineering degree from an accredited college or university recognized by the State Education Department of New York; AND Seven (7) years of experience in public works projects; or Ten (10) years of professional engineering experience of which three (3) shall have been in a responsible capacity in the design and construction of streets, sidewalks, or similar projects.
