Happy Columbus Day and Indigenous Peoples' Day! Columbus Day commemorates the arrival of Christopher Columbus in the Americas in 1492 and celebrates the explorer for opening the New World to European settlement. Indigenous Peoples' Day celebrates, recognizes, and honors the history, cultures, contributions, and perseverance of Native Americans across the United States. There are no set rules on how one should appreciate Indigenous Peoples' Day. Mandy Van Heuvelen, a member of the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe from South Dakota and the cultural interpreter coordinator at the Smithsonian's National Museum of the American Indian says, "It can be a day of reflection of our history in the United States, the role Native people have played in it, the impacts that history has had on Native people and communities, and also a day to gain some understanding of the diversity of Indigenous peoples." #ColumbusDay #IndigenousPeoplesDay

Today is World Mental Health Day! 🧠 This year's official theme is ‘It is Time to Prioritize Mental Health in the Workplace,’ which highlights the importance of mental health in professional settings. The campaign advocates for workplace environments where mental health is prioritized, protected, and promoted. The best way to celebrate World Mental Health Day is by making time to prioritize your own mental wellbeing — whether that's by having a self-care day, eating a nutritious meal, exercising, connecting with loved ones, doing an activity that makes you feel happy and relaxed, or simply talking about your mental health candidly. Whatever it may be, celebrate World Mental Health Day in a way that's meaningful to you! #WorldMentalHealthDay #WorldMentalHealthDay2024 #MentalHealthMatters #MentalHealthAwareness
