I’m still glowing from my Valentine’s Day with the City of Redlands!! ❤️ This week I facilitated a session on DEI Foundations and Understanding Unconscious Bias for 400 employees (!) - at same time! How did we do it? We had a main training room and then broadcast the session into another auditorium in another building! It was phenomenal to see this feat accomplished. I was so inspired to see so many people engaged, participating in discussions, and also being so open about new topics and ways of looking at situations, even if they were new to this subject. This training included people from all parts of the city - admin, IT, facilities, the library, the museum, forensics, fire, police, and more. We kicked it off with what people are proud of in working with their team at the City. It was so encouraging and motivating to hear all of the positive things that people had to say. That’s the thing about this work. When you start with the foundation of coming together, aiming for a better outcome, offering empathy and self-examining how each of us can do better - that’s how we can have those hard conversations and reflections, and strive to create a better environment for all. My experiences with the City of Redlands prove how consistent dedication and commitment to this effort (this is one of an entire series that we have been a part of that they regularly hold) can create a culture of inclusion and ongoing appreciation for one another. That is the ultimate goal. Thank you City of Redlands for having us! And hats off to my teammate Patty Alvarenga for a * phenomenal * job running a room of over 200 people while I was leading another room at the same time! And to all who participated - you made this happen. Even attendees who got called to emergencies in the city and who stayed as long as they could. We see you and thank you for your contributions to the community. #community #culture #DEI #diversityequityinclusion #leadership
