  • 'Still Life in Flux' This week, the Salem Public Art Commission honors Nancy Lindburg, a local artist who has made a lasting impact on Salem’s arts community. In Still Life in Flux, Lindburg combines still life and abstraction, creating a space that feels both personal and expansive. Over her 65-year career, she has been an artist, educator and advocate, serving as executive director of the Salem Art Association and artist services coordinator for the Oregon Arts Commission. Want to see this painting with the artist? Attend Slow Art Day on Saturday, April 5, 11 a.m.–noon at the Salem Public Library! Spend 30 minutes viewing three featured paintings from the Salem Public Art Collection, followed by a discussion with Lindburg and other attendees!

  • Salem's annual Qing Ming Festival, or the Clear and Bright Festival, returns on Saturday, April 5, with an open house from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the Salem Pioneer Cemetery. The festival is associated with honoring ancestors and celebrating the return of spring. It is also know as "tomb sweeping" day. The program will include dedication music from Willamette University students, a proclamation by Mayor Julie Hoy, speaker Russ Lowe from Salem's Chinese Community and Qing Ming offerings. Traditionally, family members made offerings of tea, wine and food. Families would then burn joss paper representing money that the spirits could use in the afterlife. This would ensure that the ancestors had enough food and money for the next year.  View Qing Ming online: https://lnkd.in/gzqHKAbp
