  • From City of Sherwood Economic Development Manager Erik Adair: "One of the best parts of our work at the City of Sherwood is celebrating the businesses and leaders who make our community thrive. Last week, we had the privilege of attending the Sherwood Area Chamber of Commerce Commerce Annual Awards Luncheon, where I had the honor of presenting the Business Leader of the Year award to Kevin and Amanda Bates, owners of Symposium Coffee. "Kevin and Amanda have shown outstanding leadership within the Sherwood community and made lasting contributions to both their industry and our city through their commitment to service. It was an inspiring event recognizing many businesses and individuals who are shaping Sherwood's future. "Thank you to the Sherwood Chamber for hosting such a fantastic event, and congratulations to all the award recipients!"

  • Get to know City of Sherwood Economic Development Manager Erik Adair as he shares his thoughts on Economic Development in Sherwood: Building Stronger Businesses, A Stronger Sherwood With 24 years of experience in government, trade, business, and economic development—both in the U.S. and internationally—I’ve learned that economic development is about people as much as it is about business. At the heart of my approach is listening, understanding, and connecting. Every business, whether a startup or a major employer, has unique needs and challenges. I’m driven by helping them find the resources, networks, and support that can truly move the needle—whether that’s navigating City Hall, identifying funding opportunities, or making the right industry connections. I want to be a champion for businesses in Sherwood, ensuring that our city is a place where companies don’t just operate—they thrive. Whether a business has 500 employees or just one, my goal is the same: to support their success. I’m also driven to help diversify our tax base, create new jobs, and make Sherwood an even more vibrant place to live and work. I often find myself drawn to businesses with a problem to solve—whether it’s a growth challenge, workforce needs, or simply cutting through red tape. I see my role as a liaison between the business community and the city, making sure we’re communicating effectively and providing real, actionable support. Looking ahead, I’m excited to keep building relationships, connecting businesses to resources, and working alongside Sherwood’s incredible business community. If you're a business owner or entrepreneur in Sherwood, I’d love to connect and learn how we can grow together. #EconomicDevelopment #SherwoodOregon

  • Please meet Erik Adair, the new City of Sherwood Economic Development Manager! We hope you'll join us over the next few weeks for an ongoing Q&A as we get to know Erik and welcome him to our Sherwood team! Q: How are you feeling about joining us here in Sherwood? A: I'm thrilled to share that I've joined the City of Sherwood, Oregon, as the new Economic Development Manager! After 20 years of experience in international trade, business development, and economic development across Washington, D.C., Seattle, and Southeast Asia, I’m excited to bring my passion for fostering growth and innovation to this incredible city. Sherwood has already captured my heart with its strong sense of community, thriving opportunities, and historic Old Town Sherwood. This year, I’m especially excited about the strategic plan we’re developing to ensure Old Town remains a vibrant centerpiece of the community. The collaboration from residents, businesses, and stakeholders has been truly inspiring, and I can’t wait to see how we can honor its history while paving the way for future growth. Beyond Old Town, we’re focused on the Sherwood West expansion, supporting local businesses, advancing workforce development, and enhancing Sherwood’s position as a gateway to Oregon’s stunning wine country. I’m honored to work alongside such a dedicated community to help Sherwood grow into an even more dynamic place to live, work, and visit. Here’s to new beginnings and building a bright future together! 🍷✨ #EconomicDevelopment #SherwoodOregon #OldTownSherwood #CommunityGrowth

SHERWOOD HIGH SCHOOL INDUSTRY PARTNERSHIP MEETING – GROWING THE NEXT GEN OF SKILLED TALENT FOR METRO PORTLAND I was so excited to be able to attend today’s Sherwood School District/Industry Partnership Meeting which was held at the Sherwood High School campus. This was an opportunity for the Sherwood School District’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) program to bring together so many industry partners with the District’s very experienced CTE teachers in such areas as welding, computer sciences, architecture and other key fields. The focus of this program is to continue to grow and retain the next generation of our skilled workforce. I found it very rewarding to join so many small and large companies in the Sherwood/South Metro area who are participating in the SHS Industry Partnership. These included Lam Research, Intel Corporation, ALBINA MANAGEMENT COMPANY, Harris Thermal Transfer Products Perlo Construction, Rosendin Electric, DWFritz Automation, PPM Technologies, NSI/Nuance Systems, Machine Sciences, GK Machining, Fortis Construction, Inc.Ascentec Engineering, LLC, the food/beverage/hospitality industry, the skilled trades, Portland General Electric, home builders and so many others. The group was organized by Elizabeth Barrett who leads the CTE program for the Sherwood School District - with the strong support from Adam Mitchell, the SHS Principal. I was delighted to learn of the progress that Liz and her team have made since last spring in working to create an apprenticeship program with the pipefitters union and the work that is underway on creating additional apprenticeship opportunities. This is a very important initiative to grow our future middle class. If your company is interested in learning more about how you can work with Sherwood Schools to help grow your skilled workforce, please reach out to Liz at ebarrett@sherwood.k12.or.us . If you would like to learn more about Sherwood and our focus on economic development, you can reach out to me colemanb@sherwoodoregon.gov. After October 4th, please contact Eric Rutledge at rutledgee@sherwoodoregon.gov
