Charming Small-Town Feel. Modern Big-City Amenities.

About us

One of MONEY Magazine's 100 Best Places to Live in America in 2017, the City of Delaware is located just north of Columbus and has a population of 40,000. In existence since 1808, residential and industrial development has flourished. The proximity to Columbus, as well as historic periods of growth and prosperity, has greatly influenced the city, however it has carefully preserved many of the 19th century buildings and homes, its comfortable scale and "home town" pace of life. The City of Delaware is a family-oriented community that blends a traditional hometown atmosphere with a modern, independent spirit. Thus why we refer to Delaware as a "Charming Small-Town Feel. Modern Big-City Amenities"

Updates

  • Before every shift, our officers at DPD get briefed on important updates they need to be aware of. The afternoon briefing often is headed by Sgt. Shawn Snead, who has nearly 30 years of service with DPD. On this day we even caught Chief Adam Moore and Assistant Chief Juston Herning listening in.

  • A quick-thinking employee was honored recently by Delaware City Council for remembering his training and being decisive. Public Works employee Mike Ralston was on his refuse collection route when he noticed smoke coming from the back of the truck he was driving. In such cases, drivers are taught to eject the burning load to prevent injury and protect the vehicle. Mike did just that — quickly dumping the load onto the street, calling 9-1-1, and managing traffic until help arrived. His actions spared himself and bystanders from harm and saved the $450,000 vehicle from catastrophic damage. The rapid response by Delaware Fire Dept. and Public Works Departments allowed the fire to be extinguished, and debris removed. While the exact cause of the fire is unknown, it likely involved improperly disposed hazardous waste. Great job, Mike!!

  • We have many closed-circuit TVs throughout City buildings. Some are public facing; many are in break rooms or employee common areas. The public monitors share City wide information and calendar type listings. The ones for employees often share retirement well wishes, important insurance updates, recognize a job well done, or share in the hiring or promotions of our team members. Here's one of our recent graphics made for our newest police officer. Welcome Officer Healy!
