Today, we honor the memory of those lost and the heroes who answered the call on September 11, 2001. In partnership with the Cordova Community Council, the morning was spent honoring the nearly 3,000 lives lost that day with a traveling exhibit, “Remembering Our Fallen,” a photographic war memorial that honors our country’s military fallen from the war on terror. The exhibit will be at Rancho Cordova City Hall now through September 15. “We remember their bravery, their selflessness, and their love for country,” said Mayor David M. Sander, Ph.D. #NeverForget the events of that day and join the annual social media campaign, Remember the Sky. To participate, simply post a photo of the sky wherever you are on September 11, regardless of the weather. Share it with the hashtag #RemembertheSky and tag the 9/11 Memorial and Museum at @911Memorial. Thank you to the Rancho Cordova City Council, Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District, Rancho Cordova PD, Electeds and residents who joined us this morning. #neverforget911 Image Credit: Ayden Gregory Photography

MISAC Central Chapter Hosted Inaugural Cybersecurity & AI Symposium in Rancho Cordova The Municipal Information Systems Association of California (MISAC) Central Chapter hosted its first-ever Cybersecurity & AI Symposium from August 21-23, 2024, at the Rancho Cordova City Hall. This event, led by Chapter President Jessica Crone of the City of Rancho Cordova, marked a significant milestone for the association as it delved into the evolving fields of cybersecurity and artificial intelligence. Bringing together IT professionals from across the region, the event began with a leadership session, followed by the president’s welcome reception, which set the stage for a series of educational presentations. Rancho Cordova Assistant City Manager David Kwong introduced the Keynote Speaker, Sadie St. Lawrence, an AI visionary whose insights shaped the discussions throughout the symposium. The event featured presentations from an impressive lineup of experts, including representatives from the FBI Cyber Squad, Diamond IT, the Central California Intelligence Center, Tyler Technologies, Fortinet, and MISAC's AI Task Force. The symposium also offered attendees the chance to connect and celebrate diversity. Participants enjoyed a cultural presentation by the Sudanese Association of Greater Sacramento, and the Cordova High School Culinary Program cooked and served appetizers for the expo night. The sponsor expo and networking night provided ample opportunities for attendees to connect with industry leaders, explore innovative solutions, and forge valuable partnerships. The MISAC Central Chapter's Cybersecurity & AI Symposium was a vision of the future of public sector IT in California. No hallucinations here, only vibrant reflections on how transformative this Symposium was!

Last week, Rancho Cordova Mayor David M. Sander, Ph.D, Vice Mayor Siri Pulipati and City Manager Micah Runner were members of a group representing the greater Sacramento region that visited South Korea. They met with business leaders to showcase our region, share synergies with new and existing relationships, and learn more about Korean businesses and organizations such as Regenerative Medicine Acceleration Foundation (RMAF), Seoul National University, Samsung, and Korea Fabless Industry Association (KFIA). The delegation also met with SK Hynix, one of the world’s top chipmakers based in South Korea. SK Hynix is also the parent company of Solidigm, a global semiconductor chip company based in Rancho Cordova. “Rancho Cordova has a large number of Korean businesses and we’re proud that the city celebrates its Korean community in many ways,” said Mayor David M. Sander. “I’m honored to have met with SK hynix in-person to thank them for the jobs and opportunities they’ve brought to our city. Their investment has been an economic game-changer for our community.” “In addition to meeting with business leaders in Korea, we are interested in establishing a sister city relationship with a Korean city,” said Vice Mayor Siri Pulipati. “Rancho Cordova not only has key industries of interest to Korean businesses, but our city is known for being a multicultural community, with regional connectivity and an unmatched lifestyle that boasts arts, culture and outdoor fun. Korea is full of inspiration, and as we explore, we are collecting a range of innovative ideas to bring back to Rancho Cordova.” Thank you for your collaboration and investment in our region.

Run, ride, paddle! On July 20, 2024, the annual Great American Triathlon returned to the Sacramento Region on the beautiful American River Parkway. 376 participants braved the challenging course with a 24.42-mile run, ride and paddle event. Originally known as Eppie’s Great Race until 2019, the Great American Triathlon has been a regional tradition for 50 years, with the first event in 1974. The City of Rancho Cordova proudly sponsors this annual event, with city staff hitting the parkway to compete in both team and individual races. Krystle Judish, a Great American Triathlon participant and city employee since 2013, organizes the city staff participants each year. “Over the last almost 10 years, the Great American Triathlon has inspired me to reach my own personal goals, helped my mental and physical health, and I’ve completed an Ironwoman which I never thought I could do,” said Krystle Judish, City of Rancho Cordova employee. “This event has shown me I am capable of more than what I think I am. I would never have gotten into cycling or kayaking if it wasn’t for this race. It changes lives.” The Great American Triathlon benefits regional non-profits, including the American River Parkway Foundation, Court Appointed Child Advocates (CASA) of Placer County, and CASH Sacramento – Community Against Sexual Harm. Congratulations to all the inspirating participants of this year’s race! For more City of Rancho Cordova stories and updates, visit https://lnkd.in/gK896u7J.
