The City of Ventura is a coastal community officially named San Buenaventura that was founded in 1782 with the establishment of Mission San Buenaventura. Located along the Pacific Ocean between Los Angeles and Santa Barbara, the City was incorporated in 1866. The City of Ventura is a full-service municipality serving 109,000 residents within the 32 square mile city limits. A boom from 1910 to 1930 resulted in an eclectic architectural mix of red brick storefronts, terra cotta "Beaux-Arts" buildings, Victorian and Spanish Revival style homes in the city.

Welcome, Taruna Schuelke! Taruna brings extensive research and laboratory experience to Ventura Water, having worked at both UC Santa Barbara and UC Riverside, conducting scientific research as a Graduate researcher and laboratory manager. Taruna earned her PhD in Ecology, Evolution, and Marine Biology from UC Santa Barbara. She is also a part-time Biology professor at Ventura College! As an Environmental Biologist, Taruna will work on planning, coordinating, and implementing environmental mitigation projects and efforts to comply with environmental laws, policies, and regulations that apply to Ventura Water. Additionally, she will coordinate and conduct field monitoring studies and environmental analysis. Congratulations to Cary Glenn on her new role as Senior Management Analyst in the Economic Development division of the City Manager’s Office! With over 25 years of dedicated service to the City, Cary has been a driving force behind initiatives that support our local businesses and strengthen our economy. Her contributions have spearheaded the Ventura County Coast & Downtown Ventura Partners renewal efforts and created systems to support the implementation of the Economic Development Strategy. Cary has also played a key role in business outreach, partnering on SCORE workshops, launching the Midtown Community Council Business Workshop with the Ventura Chamber of Commerce, and providing hands-on support to businesses like Seeds, Mother’s Tacos, Ocean Rainforest, and Café Zoomies.
