One of our latest blogs reveals how you can spot and identify common mosquitoes in your region quickly and easily. Enhance your field skills and contribute to mosquito control efforts! Quick ID Tips: ☑ Focus on maxillary palpi, the tip of the abdomen (cerci), and proboscis. ☑ Use the 90% rule, looking for key features like markings, wing patterns, and antenna structure. ☑ Geography is a clue---different species thrive in different environments. Spotlight on Common Genera: ☑ Aedes: Pointed abdomen, often has black and white striped legs, aggressive biters, day and dusk activity. ☑ Culex: Dark brown to black, active at dawn and dusk, parallel resting position. ☑ Anopheles: Long palps, spotted wings, unique 45° resting angle. ☑ Culiseta: Larger size, night activity, long drooping proboscis. Quick Step-by-Step Field Identification: ☑ Anopheles? Look for maxillary palps as long as the proboscis. ☑ Pointy Butt? Aedes and Psorophora have pointy abdomens. ☑ Something Weird? Unique features like iridescent blue or unusual leg characteristics. ☑ Culiseta or Culex? Check the length of the proboscis relative to the palps. Ready to dive deeper? The Metropolitan Mosquito Control District (MMCD) conducted a thorough study to assess Natular G’s impact on non-target organisms in Minnesota’s vernal pools and cattail marshes.     The Natular formulation portfolio, with its active ingredient Qalcova-brand spinosad, is recognized by the EPA as a reduced-risk pesticide. This study reinforces its effectiveness as a key tool in mosquito control, delivering successful larval management while preserving local ecosystems and having minimal impact on non-target species    For a deeper dive into MMCD’s findings and the detailed study, visit Clarke’s blog: https://lnkd.in/erX9Yi89

Clarke's Midwest operational division, including its surveillance lab and application teams– previously relied on RAMP testing and third-party PCR verification of mosquito population samples for diseases such as WNV, EEE, and more, with up to two-week delays in getting confirmed results for mosquito-borne viruses.    By setting up an in-house PCR lab, Clarke now controls the entire testing process, providing faster and more accurate results within 24 to 48 hours, allowing quicker community notifications and timely implementation of mosquito control measures.    For a deeper dive into how PCR testing has been a pivotal transition for Clarke's mosquito control efforts, visit: https://lnkd.in/eZsYM6CW
