Claroty’s Team82 researchers have identified and reported five vulnerabilities to the vendors affected by issues in their Manufacturing Messaging Specification (MMS) protocol implementations. These #vulnerabilities pose significant risks, as they could enable an attacker to crash an #industrial device or even execute code remotely in certain scenarios. The #MMSprotocol disclosure follows Team82’s thorough investigation into commercial and open-source implementations of the protocol in the #power sector and how they’re used for #communication between control centers and modern, digital substation devices. The New York-headquartered company is also making freely available a tool it developed during its research called ‘MMS Stack Detector.’ The tool was invaluable in identifying specific implementations based on observed MMS payloads and is available on the Team82 GitHub page. In a blog post this week, Mashav Sapir and Vera Mens, Claroty researchers published details on five vulnerabilities discovered in two MMS protocol implementations; MZ Automation GmbH’s libIEC61850 library and Triangle MicroWorks, Inc.’ TMW IEC 61850 library. Successful exploits of these flaws could allow an attacker to crash an industrial device or in some cases, enable remote code execution. #Threatlandscape #CriticalInfrastructure #remoteCode https://lnkd.in/gg3HDvWq
