Gerrymandering threatens an already imperiled democracy. With yet another election on its way, revisit our 2021 #ClassACTHR73Forum on how we can undo the excesses of gerrymandering that have fed political frustration and extremism.

Non-profit Organization Management
ClassACT brings together Harvard-Radcliffe Class of 1973 classmates to address vital societal issues.
About us
ClassACT is a vehicle to bring Harvard-Radcliffe classmates and others together to address important local, national and international issues. We are committed to positive change, together. We do this by bridging gaps between existing nonprofit efforts and classmates' expertise, sharing news of progress and ideas, and learning about ways we can help others by collaborating with each other in larger Class Acts. Some initiatives include a collaboration with JusticeAid, the Benazir Bhutto Leadership Program. We welcome all members of the Harvard community to join us in our mission, share resources, contribute expertise, or create your own class’ ClassACT.

In May 2021, ClassACTHR73 assembled its third #ClassACTHR73Forum examining the impacts of the virus on racial and ethnic groups and among under-served populations across the globe and within the United States. With the remarkable development of multiple vaccines to mitigate the spread of Covid-19, we turned to the topic of vaccine development and distribution to explored how we may address the worldwide health disparities that the pandemic dramatically exacerbated--disparities that still exist today.

Our changing climate primarily affects the water cycle, which, combined with human demands, has stressed the reliable availability of water. Its amounts, timing, and quality for humans, other species, and ecosystems have been severely disrupted. Extreme weather events highlight these disruptions. In 2021, a panel of experts discussed how a changing climate presents significant challenges to global and local water security and how to begin planning future actions. #ClassACTHR73Forum

On the screens we scan and in our own lives, we constantly see examples of racial inequality in our policing, our courts and our prison system. We ask ourselves what can be done to rectify wrongs older than the country itself. Why is a Black or brown person more likely to face violent treatment if arrested? What forms of institutionalized racism exist in courts that too often hand out unequal sentences? How can we reform a system of mass incarceration that has crippled the futures of countless people of color, their families and their communities? What changes in consciousness must we all undertake, beginning with a deeper understanding of the systems of control put in place from the time of slavery onward? Back in March 2021, we convened an esteemed panel to explore these questions. #ClassACTHR73Forum

In January 2021, it felt like an eternity since any of us had walked into a theater or club and seen a live performance. Performing artists and performing arts organizations were in peril. Their civic-minded boards are seeking ways to keep their artistic companies afloat, while embracing the critical role the arts have in advancing racial justice and parity in our society. Through all of this, the spark of creativity is kindling innovations, support and hope. Revisit "When the Stage Goes Dark: Performing Arts in Covid Time"
