The central coordinating point for alternative fuel vehicle (AFV) activities in the state of Georgia since 1993

About us

The Clean Cities Program is an initiative of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and focuses on strategies to reduce petroleum consumption in transportation. There are nearly 100 Clean Cities Coalitions across the country and Clean Cities–Georgia holds the distinction of being the first coalition. DOE officially designated the coalition in 1993. Clean Cities–Georgia is the central coordinating point for alternative fuel vehicle (AFV) activities in the state of Georgia. Our shared mission with the national Clean Cities Program is to: Advance the energy, economic, and environmental security of the United States by supporting local actions to reduce petroleum use in transportation.

Every child deserves a safe, clean, and healthy ride to school. When a child rides a propane-fueled bus to school, they arrive healthier, safer, and better prepared to learn. Diesel school buses are not good for our kids or our communities. Though electric buses run clean and quiet, their extremely high costs place big burdens on school district budgets. That can mean less money for what matters most: educating children. Propane buses offer many of the same environmental benefits of electric — but at a fraction of the cost. They travel farther, refuel more quickly, and even have a smaller carbon footprint. That means a clean, quiet ride for every child (and huge cost savings for school districts). #CleanCitiesGeorgia Read more: https://lnkd.in/eBz8CkwE

Each year, the clean hydrogen community eagerly counts down the days to October 8. Why? Because 10/08 = 1.008, the same sequence of numbers as the atomic weight of hydrogen! October 8—National Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Day—is like a birthday party for hydrogen. And best of all, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) keeps the fun rolling all week long. Hydrogen Week marks an annual opportunity to celebrate hydrogen—clean hydrogen, specifically—and the crucial role this simple yet powerful element plays in supporting a robust, equitable clean-energy future for all Americans. Read more about how you can get involved in this week’s celebration and learn a few fun facts about hydrogen! https://lnkd.in/g6rt2D8M

We're excited to share that the EPA has announced the opening of the 2024 Clean School Bus (CSB) Rebate Program application period! This is the third rebate funding opportunity through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law’s multi-year CSB Program. Under the 2024 CSB Rebate Program, the EPA anticipates awarding up to $965 million in rebate funding with the potential to modify this figure based on the application pool and other factors. To allow for more transformative projects, the EPA has increased the maximum number of buses funded per application from 25 to 50 school buses. Eligible applicants can apply to receive funding for the purchase of zero-emission (ZE) and/or clean school buses (propane or compressed natural gas), and the purchase and installation of ZE charging infrastructure for applicants requesting ZE buses; selected applicants may also use their awarded rebate funds for workforce training, consulting costs for bus deployments, and bus warranty costs. The EPA will also provide additional funding per bus for ADA-compliant buses and for applicants not located in one of the lower 48 contiguous states to cover shipping costs. 2024 Clean School Bus Rebate Program applicants must submit all application materials by January 9th, 2025, at 4:00PM ET through the Applicant Dashboard here: https://lnkd.in/g2C-vjqF

The U.S. Department of Energy is studying so-called "soft costs" of deploying electric vehicle charging infrastructure that sometimes are overlooked, and notes that the outlay for such items — such as permitting, inspections, administration and utility interconnections — can be higher than those for buildout costs, such as charging station construction, equipment and software. DOE’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory is leading the initiative in partnership with peer national laboratories to add clarity about soft costs that governments and private-sector companies may incur as they consider building out EV infrastructure. The Middle Georgia Regional Commission will receive $15 million to install approximately 234 publicly available EV chargers across 111 sites. The project intends to close all gaps in the region’s EV infrastructure with EV stations no more than 15 minutes apart. With 54% of sites located within Transportation Disadvantaged Census Tracts, the project expands access to EV charging, particularly for rural communities. 🚗🚙🚗 This grant is made possible through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law’s $2.5-billion Charging and Fueling Infrastructure (CFI) Discretionary Grant Program and a 10 percent set-aside from the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Formula Program.

It was recently announced that the City of Atlanta will receive nearly $11.8 million to install a DC Fast Charging Hub at the Atlanta Airport ✈️ with 50 DC Fast Chargers. The DC Fast Charger Hub will provide critical charging for rental car companies, ride-share drivers, airport shuttles for hotels, employees, the City's growing electric fleet of light to heavy-duty vehicles, as well as regional and local EV drivers coming to the airport or driving along the nearby major highway systems. The project aims to improve asthma related issues in predominantly Black and underserved neighborhoods and would engage underserved communities to ensure widespread adoption of EVs. 🚙 #DriveElectricGeorgia This grant is made possible through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law’s $2.5-billion Charging and Fueling Infrastructure (CFI) Discretionary Grant Program and a 10 percent set-aside from the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Formula Program.

Please join us on Thursday, October 10 from 2–6 p.m. for Electric Highways and Harbors: a free workshop discussing the state of medium- and heavy-duty electrification in Florida and Georgia. This event will convene leaders in the medium- and heavy-duty electrification field to discuss progress being made to reduce our dependence on oil and opportunities to deploy electric fleets and charging infrastructure across the state. Our agenda will consist of several keynote addresses and two panels: one on medium- and heavy-duty electrification with an emphasis on electric school bus deployment, and one on port and freight electrification in the Southeast with an emphasis on operations. We will be joined by representatives from leading organizations in the transportation electrification space such as Blue Bird, Highland Electric Fleets, and Go Station. Clean Cities Georgia held a community meeting this summer where stakeholders in the DeKalb Electric Vehicle community came to give input on locations for Community EV Charging stations in South Dekalb. The southern part of DeKalb County has almost no EV Charging stations compared to the north. The hope is that by building more charging stations in South DeKalb, the public will be more inclined to adopt EVs county-wide. This will have the knock-on effect of making it easier for the county to purchase and use EVs by expanding the range of the EVs in its fleet.
