✅ The dominance of English in science hinders global climate literacy. Since most people don't speak English, access to climate information is limited, especially in developing countries where climate change impacts are most severe. 👈 Initiatives like UNESCO's OpenScience and Climate Cardinals are working to break down these language barriers. By promoting multilingualism and translating climate findings, they aim to make science more accessible, inclusive, and equitable. ✍ This is crucial for collective action on climate change. Everyone deserves a voice in shaping our planet's future. 🤔 #Climate #Language #OpenScience #Literacy #Knowledge #Equity #English #Scientific #Publishing #Future #Planet #OpenScience #Inclusion #Voice #UN

🌎 Less than 20% of the global population speaks English, yet over 90% of climate information is only available in English. This especially impacts the global majority—6.6 billion non-English speakers—who face barriers in accessing climate information and sharing their research and solutions to secure partnerships, funding, and other resources. 🎙️ I recently joined the incredible Dickon Bonvik-Stone on the Communicating Climate Change podcast to talk about my work as Executive Director at Climate Cardinals and how our youth-led organization is addressing this issue by translating climate information into over 100 languages and empowering grassroots climate education. Five years ago, it would’ve been hard to imagine how much our message would resonate—back when we were just a group of high school graduates with $500 and a website. To date, Climate Cardinals has translated 3 million words into 105 languages, mobilized 16,000 youth in 134 countries, and reached 11 million people. 💚 🎧 Spotify: https://lnkd.in/dawStgrf 🎧 Apple Podcasts: https://lnkd.in/dt_quwSw
