The Climate Drift Career Accelerator for mid-career & executives kicked off. The first round of feedback is solid 🔥 Here are my top 3 from our members: 1️⃣ “I’ve gotten tremendous value out of the course; specifically the action-oriented nature of the course (learning + doing, not just learning) and the orientation towards landing a career in climate and HOW to do it” 2️⃣ “The quality and access to the speakers so far has been unparalleled (and I've done programs with [multiple other climate education programs]).” 3️⃣ 10 out of 10: The content is in-depth and interesting, and gives the cohort opportunities to get involved by tackling challenges hands-on (which in my opinion, is the best way to learn!) If you want to make a difference and bring your talent into climate. Apply to our May ’24 cohort and join the Climate Drift community. More info and how to apply here: https://lnkd.in/eN8aCHsC

Here’s a huge THANK YOU to everyone working in Climate. One day you will be remembered as heroes, but today… You must slouch through knee deep horseshit. Ignore the naysayers. And focus on your solutions. Please continue marching on. And show everyone else the way. I am grateful for all of you 🙏 —— PS. If you know somebody who works in climate. Send them a quick note thanking them. This week was a rough one for them.

The Climate economy is HUNGRY for leadership talent. And not because some VC wants 10 times their money back. That’s what tech used to fuel their fire. It’s because they clearly see what’s at stake if they don’t succeed. And how much they can change our future for the better. Those leaders know that they need to go faster, bigger and better. To do this. You need exceptional talent. You very often don’t have time to train somebody up. Or let them grow into that leadership role over the next 3 years. You need experienced operators who’ve grown companies to 500+ teams before. Or that “0 to 1” person who launched multiple products from scratch. With little funding. Or that marketer who has scaled multiple campaigns and reached millions of people before. It’s all about reaching that next milestone as fast as possible. Not because of money running out. But because you know what happens if you don’t. And that is a much more powerful motivation than money. Let’s go! —— PS. Need a super spooky Climate Halloween costume? 👹 Here’s the scariest Climate thing I could find 😳 It’s your classic scientific talk by Stefan Rahmstorf from 6 days ago. It’s dry, dense with info, and you have to focus to follow along. But it’s the scientists and engineers who push humanity forward. Which is why it’s worth listening to them. Even if it’s bloody scary. And that’s what Halloween is all about: 👉 Dress up as the failing AMOC ocean current. ❓If somebody asks what you’re dressed up at ❓ Say: “I’m a massive open ocean current running through the entire Atlantic Ocean. Because of me, most of Europe, isn’t frozen over and can grows plenty of food. But I am about to reach a tipping point. And the moment I do. Nobody can stop my complete collapse. I will wipe out the entire European agricultural business. Leaving 1,000,000,000 people in search of new food sources. While causing huge sea level rises in the North. And make the south heat up faster. So we can have more of those crazy storms”. Scary, huh? Happy Halloween 👻 (Anything in Climate you find scarier that this? Share it in the comments. I know there’s plenty. And writing it down often times helps me cope with it.) ——— PS. Comment if you want me to share the scary AMOC video with you. PPS. I just got this message from a very accomplished leader. Climate Career Transitions are 50% about confidence! And the best way to boost your confidence: → Surround yourself with people who believe in you. → Join that Climate community. → Challenge yourself. → Find your people. → Help out. → Be Kind. Remember this, the next time somebody asks you for help or advice. Give them the confidence boost they need. Let's go! --- PS. If you found this helpful and want more career advice on how to break into Climate, consider commenting and following me here - Marco Morawec - and the Climate Drift company page. 🙏

This Climate graph felt like a punch in the gut 👊 If you watch anything today. Let it be those 2.5 mins. Johan Rockström beautifully delivers this talk to leaders of the Stockholm Resilience Centre. Here’s what you need to know: Our modern world developed through a very stable climate over 1,000s of years. With an average temperature of 14C. No fluctuation of more than 0.5C. In the past 3,000,000 years, our planet NEVER exceeded +2C. Now we’re projected to go beyond the +2C in the next few decades. And we have not found any evidence that Earth can support 9B people in that +2C scenario 😱 And it’s absolutely crazy to think that we’re anywhere near prepared for this. So if you needed any more motivation to re-think your priorities. → How you vote in elections. → How you vote with your money. → What you demand from your leaders. → What you do with your professional careers. Let it be this: Nobody has a clue how we can care for everyone on earth. Outside our existing “corridor of life” (with 0.5C temp variations). (I think I need to go for a walk in the forest to decompress after watching this) Go watch this video. It is worth it. (thank you to Gunhild Anker Stordalen for this "bring it out of the board meeting" video 🙏 ——— PS. If you’re thinking of switching your career into climate. Remember that we built Climate Drift exactly for that: 👉 We help professionals find their first leadership role in climate through the Climate Drift Career Accelerator. 👉 We help people wanting to break into climate through our FREE e-mail learning courses. 👉 We share a lot of free knowledge and climate sub sectors deep dives in our newsletter. All available on the Climate Drift website. (and links in first comment) PPS. In case you’re wondering ❓Why trust my advice❓ Maybe this helps (slightly blushing as I write this 😳) → I taught 100s of students at the best universities (Harvard, etc.) → Personally helped 1,000s of people transition careers. → 15 years of launching education + career programs. → NPS satisfaction: 60+ (better than Apple).

Instead of being jealous of people who landed “YOUR” dream Climate job. Try this 👇 Reach out to them. Ask them what they did to get to this point. Let them show you their path. And then use the bits and pieces that work best for you. Above all, be nice to people. And leave the bad feelings behind! There’s only one boat. And we’re all in it. Let’s go! —— PS. My kids don’t give a flying “fig” about food waste 😱 And no, they don’t understand that food waste contributes 6% to global CO2 emissions. And one of the easiest ways to shrink that number is to start in your own kitchen. So here’s your Climate Daddy solution to this: I’m planting a vegetable garden. With my kiddos. And we will work on it every single day. Seeding Planting Watering Weeding Mulching Harvesting (hopefully). Something we do every day after school 🚜 ❓Why❓ I want them to understand how hard it is to grow food. How frustrating a horde of snails eating all your lettuce can be. And hopefully that will end the: Serving too much. Mushing up the dinner. And wasting food 😤 I will report back 😂 Dirt under my fingernails and all! Let’s go! —— PS. Here’s a “radical” idea to phase out fossil fuel. Why don’t the CEOs of the 5 biggest Oil and Gas companies get together in a room. And decide that they will jointly move us away from Oil and Gas in the next 5 years. Doing a full on pivot. Totally refocusing their companies on renewables. Each selling it to their board and influencing government to move the subsidies away from Oil. And into renewables. And make no mistake: Oil &Gas have been influencing politics for decades (they are really good at it!). ❓But why would they do that❓ 1️⃣ Because of the realization that nobody comes behind them. If they don’t do it. The person holding the reins in 5 to 10 years, is too late. 2️⃣ Because history has their eyes on them. “In 2025, these 5 leaders, controlling the vast amount of Oil & Gas, helped prevent…” 3️⃣ We could just buy them out. “Stop Oil & Gas for real. No more taxes for you, for life 😱 And 10X your early salary until you die.” I am not sure I’ve seen so much power to do the right thing…. Concentrated in the hands of so few. 🤔 Crazy to think about it this way. —— PS. If you think this is never going to happen. But want to move  your career into the Climate Economy.
