About us
The Climate Justice Resilience Fund is a grantmaking initiative that supports women, youth, and Indigenous Peoples to create and share their own solutions for climate resilience. We put people, their rights, and their lived experience directly at the center of climate action. Since our launch in 2016, we have deployed nearly US$20 million through more than 40 major grant partnerships, primarily in East Africa, the North American Arctic, and the Bay of Bengal. We are one of the first major philanthropic initiatives framed explicitly around climate justice, and one of few that works internationally on climate resilience.

Have a read of this article from BBC Future to learn how we’re supporting the work of Young Power in Social Action (YPSA) to provide climate refugees in Bangladesh with resilient homes and alternative livelihood sources ⬇️ Bangladesh is one of the world's most climate-vulnerable countries. By 2050, 1 in 7 Bangladeshis will be displaced due to climate change. In the face of #LossAndDamage from climate-related disasters, YPSA are helping families who are forced to migrate. The YPSA project is one of many community-led initiatives supported by CJRF using funding from The Scottish Government. Loss and damage funding is vital for communities on the frontlines of the #ClimateCrisis. We want to see further pledges for loss and damage funding at #COP28 and beyond. Now that a Loss and Damage Fund has been established, it’s imperative that developed countries #FillTheFund. https://lnkd.in/emHvdX6H

Our partners at SEI — Stockholm Environment Institute released a new report TODAY, detailing lessons learned from the Scottish Government’s 2021 funding commitment to #LossAndDamage. CJRF is proud to have played a part in making sure those at the local level are able to fund community-driven approaches to addressing the impacts of #ClimateChange. This report comes just as global leaders are working to make the UN Climate Change L&D Fund a reality at #COP28. Read the lessons learned in the full report today! https://lnkd.in/eNzV6bh2

It’s been a long road to the Loss and Damage Fund, but at #COP28 in Dubai we expect to see it agreed. There has been much compromise from developing countries in the development of the fund – but the inclusion of community access in the final recommendations is an important step forward. On the eve of COP28’s opening plenary, hear from our Director Heather McGray on why community voices are essential for a just fund ⬇️ https://lnkd.in/eb7GYZ3F

We are delighted to see the work of our grant partners Helvetas Bangladesh and Young Power in Social Action (YPSA) spotlighted in this article from Context, which explores the benefits of community leadership in loss and damage responses. Our projects with Helvetas and YPSA, alongside similar community-led initiatives in Malawi and the Pacific, are providing key learnings for the implementation of a #LossAndDamage fund at COP28. “There should a community 'window' in loss and damage funding that gives out smaller grants and is directly accessible by communities," says our Director @Heather McGray. We can see from existing projects that community leadership on loss and damage brings fairer outcomes. When communities are in the driving seat, they are able to identify collective priorities and address them with solutions tailored to their specific needs. With the Loss and Damage Fund set to become operational at #COP28, it has never been more essential to center community voices. https://lnkd.in/eV5EQHAD
