Following up from our recent trip to listen and engage with our networks in Kiribati and Fiji, we were excited continue conversations with a handful of Fiji-based Climate Reality Leaders (CRLs) to work through climate action opportunities. We are exploring impact-driven community led solutions taking shape in the region and are discussing ways to support and complement each other's efforts to better align with the priorities of the communities we collectively serve. Thank you Krishneil Narayan, Wilson Hazelman, Kumon Tarawa and Sumeet Prasad, Thelma Raman, PhD, FHEA, Otto Navunicagi and Nabreesa Murphy - for our ongoing conversations on our climate needs and passions! We feel privileged to work with and learn from our growing community 💙 #ClimateActionNow #JustTransitionNow #BeAmbitious #LeadOnClimate

📢 A new report by ActionAid Australia, Pacific Islands Climate Action Network (PICAN) Climate Action Network Australia, Oxfam and New Zealand Climate Action Network shows that Australia and Aotearoa must act now to secure an ambitious climate finance goal that delivers for Pacific communities, by: 💸 Championing at least USD 1 trillion in grant or grant-equivalent finance, 🌊 Supporting the inclusion of loss and damage, mitigation and adaptation, and; ✅ Committing to their fair share of the new goal. There are plenty of ways to find the finance - especially through ending subsidies on fossil fuels, and implementing fairer taxes that target the wealthiest polluters. Meet Latrobe Valley’s Energy Champions 💡 🎉! The Latrobe Valley is a such a special place where the community truly understands energy systems and what is needed for a vibrant, equitable and sustainable transformation towards a regenerative and clean energy future. We had such a good time partnering with Friends of the Earth Melbourne’s Yes2Renewables and Voices of the Valley to co-facilitate an Energy Champions training over the weekend, a huge thank you to all who participated and shared their knowledge and stories with all involved. With the region undergoing a major energy transition, this was a crucial moment to ensure that the community stays at the forefront of a shift to renewable energy. This was another great session where we not only discussed the facts but also worked with participants to explore the regional skills and opportunities required to showcase the amazing energy champions in the valley. A big thanks is due to the inspirational Wendy Farmer and Bodye Darvill from the Latrobe Valley Authority! And again, to all attendees and our partner Friends of the Earth Melbourne, for another incredible opportunity to learn and connect. The next Energy Champions training is in Ballarat on 15 September, you can RSVP here | https://lnkd.in/gDpH7kbD #BeAmbitious #RenewableEnergy #CleanEnergyTransition #energysolutions #JustTransitionNow #LeadOnClimate #Community #EnergyJustice

In business, #sustainability is increasingly recognised as a key factor for long-term success. Companies that incorporate sustainable practices into their core strategies not only contribute to a systemic transition toward true net zero emissions, but also unlock new opportunities for #growth and #innovation. However, the process of embedding sustainability into business operations can be complex and requires a strategic approach. We recently spoke with Climate Reality Leader Lee Stewart, who shared insights from his upcoming book and his extensive experience in the field. From making sustainability profitable to overcoming common challenges, Lee offers practical advice for business leaders looking to make sustainability a core part of their operations. Read more here | https://shorturl.at/onScJ Thank you, Lee, for taking the time to chat to us and for all you do to drive progress in the climate movement. #LeadOnClimate #JustTransitionNow #BeAmbitious #ClimateEducation #SustainableBusiness The Climate Reality Project

A recent Climate Policy study introduces a tool designed to embed Indigenous perspectives into climate policymaking. This approach highlights the urgent need for systemic change and provides a framework for evaluating and improving policies to better address climate justice issues. Here are three key takeaways: 🌿 Call for systemic change: The study asserts that achieving genuine climate justice necessitates ‘fundamental, decolonial constitutional reforms’. Current systems are often inadequate for addressing the deep-rooted injustices faced by Indigenous communities. 🌿Empowering indigenous voices: The tool, initially developed for New Zealand (Aotearoa), enables Indigenous communities to hold governments accountable and ensure that climate policies align with their values and needs. 🌿Broader applicability: Although tailored for Aotearoa, the tool was designed to be adaptable for use in other settings. It encourages the integration of Indigenous knowledge and values into global climate policy frameworks, promoting more inclusive and equitable climate action. A report released over the weekend by Climate Analytics shows that Australia’s gas and coal exports are causing more climate damage than almost any other country, Australia ranking second place after Russia. While in Australia we have a domestic ‘emission reduction’ target, we have nothing in place for exported emissions. This undermines Australia’s commitment to the Paris Agreement to reduce global heating 'well below' 1.5°C. A commitment necessary to support a climate safe future for all peoples of this region. Australia urgently needs a comprehensive climate action plan, that accounts for domestic and exported emissions and aligns emission targets with science. According to science this target looks like 75% by 2030 (based on 2005 levels) and net zero by 2035.
