🚀 I support mid-career professionals in meaningful career transitions, helping them land their dream jobs and advance with purpose. |Founder @WorkAlly | Career Coach | 'Your Career Transition Coach' | Workshopped 2000+

Celebrating a new milestone this week! 🥂 It’s the first time I’ve met and coached a Climatebase fellow face-to-face, and it’s been such an inspiring experience. 🌟 My special guest in Krakow is Ike Khurgel, a fellow from Climatebase, who came all the way from California (not just for my coaching though 😉), and whose passion for promoting 𝗱𝗲-𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘄𝘁𝗵 and 𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗰 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 is infectious! And a cherry on the cake: 🍒 today, I’ll be hosting another webinar with the incredible Climatebase tribe, connecting online from all over the world. 🌍 This time, we will dive into 𝗻𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 and its game-changing importance! 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗻𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗶𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗻𝗲𝘁 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗵 💰💼 Whether you're entering the climate sector or chasing your dreams elsewhere, who you know and how you nurture those relationships can be the key to unlocking opportunities. 🔓🤝 We become the people we surround ourselves with, and the right tribe can lift you up when you need it most and inspire you to reach for your dreams. 🚀 Studies show that our networks play a huge role in shaping our success! (Check out this fascinating research: [link in the comments] 📚) Going back to Climatebase… This isn’t just a community—it’s a 𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗯𝗲 of passionate changemakers, united in their mission to tackle climate change together. 🌱🌏 I’m grateful to be part of this incredible movement, having an opportunity to connect and interact with like-minded people, true idealists, and collaborators. 🌟 It gives me energy and hope that collectively, we can make a difference, and that I am on the right path in contributing with my talents to what the world needs. Let’s keep building connections to stay the course, grow, and expand our horizons. For me, nothing is as motivating as meeting with others who share the same 𝗽𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗱𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲, and 𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗲𝘀 as I do! 💡✨

Halfway through Cohort 6 of the Climatebase Fellowship, we paused introducing new climate curriculum to allow Fellows to reflect on everything they’ve learned so far and to plan their next steps in their climate careers. We hosted experts and Fellows for a series of sessions focused on supporting our vibrant community members currently focusing on transitioning into new climate jobs or launching their own ventures or projects. Community is at the heart of the Fellowship, and Cohort 6 Fellows Caroline Wu and Juana Solano Mesa led the way with career sessions packed with insights and inspiration. Caroline Wu moderated the “Navigating the Mid-Career Transition into Climate” panel with J.R. Siegel , Vice President, Sustainability @ Worldly, Laura Huff, Sr. Manager, Sustainability @ Amazon, and Cynthia P., Cohort 5 Fellow & Environmental Health Engineer Consultant with Alameda County Public Health Department. We’re grateful to Caroline Wu for facilitating a deep dive into leveraging existing roles to drive sustainability initiatives, balancing career growth with climate action, and the importance of networking and continuous learning. A huge shoutout to our panelists for generously sharing their experiences with climate career transitions. Cohort 6 Fellow Juana Solano Mesa added to the week’s inspiration by sharing personal stories and insights from her climate advocacy journey. Her session featured examples of individuals leading efforts in wildlife conservation and environmental preservation, from young innovators to renowned photographers. We were honored to host Will Wiseman, CEO & Co-Founder @ Climatize, and Anne Demetrio Downing, Sr. Recruiter / Talent Acquisition Consultant, who demystified how hiring managers and recruiters approach recruitment in climate tech. The discussion covered common misconceptions job seekers face and advice for standing out in a competitive job market. Cohort 6 Fellows’ favorite career coach, Magda Kufrej (she/her), joined us for a special Q&A session, addressing job seekers’ outstanding questions based on prior content and the challenges they might be facing in their career journeys. David P., Senior Lecturer @ Climatebase and serial climate entrepreneur, advisor, and investor, did the same for the founders in Cohort 6. Refreshed from the break, this week Fellows are charging ahead in their climate career journeys and deepening their climate literacy with a focus on engineered carbon removal. Stay tuned for updates! As always, a huge thank you to our Fellows, speakers, and instructors for their passion, insights, and dedication to building community and accelerating climate action. 🚀 Looking to accelerate your career in climate? Our next Fellowship cohort starts early next year. Apply here: https://lnkd.in/eE9vgDqp

Reflections on Climatebase fellowship, week 4: Transportation This was one of the weeks I'd been most excited about, as a lot of my experience and interest is in the transit, active transportation, and built environment arenas (pic is my electric bike loaded up with a week's groceries). An ongoing theme of the fellowship is the complexity of the issues, and the trade-offs that follow each policy or solution. Transportation accounts for 23% of global greenhouse emissions, most of which come from personal cars. Although new electric cars represent an opportunity for decarbonization, some remaining challenges include: - Transportation demand is insensitive to price - Fossil fuels are baked into our infrastructures - Car purchases have been trending toward larger vehicles, which has offset the efficiency gains we've made over the years - Freight makes up 40% of transportation emissions and will take longer to decarbonize - Electric vehicles have thus far required lithium and cobalt mining, which poses its own environmental and humanitarian problems. I also began creating a presentation on car-free living for a fellow-led session I hope to lead in the coming weeks, hence digging out my most impressive bike pictures 😅

Strategic Communications Leader for Climate Solutions

It's hard to believe that Climatebase #Cohort6 is almost over! So much great information so far and even better people! One of the recent standout discussions for me recently focused on nature-based climate solutions with Jason Cremerius of SPUN | Society for the Protection of Underground Networks, Valerie Kapos of UNEP-WCMC, and Leonardo Valenzuela Pérez, PhD, of Ocean Visions. Here's what struck me most: The future of climate action isn't just green – it's blue, brown, and every shade in between. 🌊🌳 1. Breaking silos isn't optional anymore. When Dr. Valerie Kapos spoke about integrating economic models with ecological principles, it hit home: we need bridges, not barriers, between sectors. 2. Indigenous wisdom + scientific research = powerful solutions. This combination is creating conservation strategies that actually work, because they're rooted in both data AND generational knowledge. 3. The tech industry has a crucial role to play. As Jason Cremerius highlighted, innovative funding mechanisms are key to scaling these solutions. Silicon Valley, are you listening? 💡 🎯 The bottom line: Nature-based solutions aren't just "nice to have" – they're essential for our survival AND economic resilience. Do you know of organizations incorporating nature-based solutions into their sustainability strategy or have thoughts on how companies can better use nature based solutions? Let's share ideas below. 👇 #ClimateAction #Sustainability #NatureBasedSolutions #ClimateChange #Innovation #Leadership #latepost

Last week, our Climatebase Fellows dove deep into the world of Nature-based Solutions 🏞️ From mangrove forests to cutting-edge conservation strategies, we explored how nature itself can be our greatest ally in the fight against climate change. Dr. Alejandra Gijón Mancheño from Delft University of Technology led an insightful deep dive into coastal protection strategies. Her presentation highlighted the multifaceted role of mangroves in ecosystem services, including wave attenuation, sediment accumulation, and carbon sequestration. Dr. Mancheño shared various mangrove restoration techniques, emphasizing the importance of site-specific approaches and community engagement. Our Fellows engaged in a productive Q&A session, exploring topics such as species diversity in restoration projects and the use of remote sensing in mapping mangrove ecosystems. Our industry panel brought together diverse expertise in nature-based solutions. Jason Cremerius, Chief Strategy & Operations Officer at SPUN and Co-founder & Managing Partner at b-theory, Dr. Valerie Kapos, Principal Specialist, Nature-based Solutions at UNEP-WCMC, and Leonardo Valenzuela Pérez, PhD, Director of International Partnerships at Ocean Visions offered perspectives ranging from economic integration to policy influence. A key focus of the discussion was reimagining nature-based solutions as integral components of our economic and development strategies, rather than standalone environmental initiatives. We're proud of our Fellows Leah Bridle and Dayna Sowd, who led engaging sessions showcasing the depth of talent within our community. Leah's session explored strategies for shifting smallholder agricultural practices, while Dayna introduced the innovative concept of green deathcare. Their contributions exemplify the diverse interests and innovative thinking within the Climatebase Fellowship. The Climatebase LIVE Job Fair with Galvanize Climate Solutions provided valuable networking opportunities for our Fellows. They connected with portfolio companies from Galvanize, a climate-focused global investment firm founded by Tom Steyer and Katie Hall, while getting to speak face-to face with hiring managers. To our Fellows: thank you again for your never-ending enthusiasm, curiosity, and dedication that continues to inspire us 💚 Learn how about the Fellowship and how you can be part of our next cohort: https://lnkd.in/eSKKMp35
