Have you ever struggled to discover a data collection in a STAC API because you did not know the ID of the collection? I have good news for you! The latest release of pystac-client (v0.8.4) includes collection search capability! Check out the release notes https://lnkd.in/gcSmvbqJ and the updated docs https://lnkd.in/gJsmAdnR

Recently I created this repository on Github for anyone to fork and clone https://lnkd.in/gVB8A_Tx. It contains an election map built entirely with open source tools and free internet accounts, hosted via Github pages https://lnkd.in/ggB6D_Pi. I think it's too hard for cartographers and GIS professionals, especially those starting out in the industry, to build web maps into their online portfolios that truly showcase their relevance to companies with mapping applications at the core of their business or operations. I am inviting everyone to use this as a template to create their own thing. I presented this yesterday at the annual North American Cartographic Information Society annual conference in Tacoma, sharing the slides here as well. Do you need this resource, or know someone who does? Please share! And let me know what you think.

Today we're excited to announce the release of new open source extension by Crunchy Data: pg_parquet. Pg_parquet makes it easy to: * Export tables or queries to Parquet files * Ingest data from parquet files into Postgres * Inspect the schema and metadata of parquet files You can read a lot more in the release announcement on our blog, but if you want to get started right away or show some love on Github with a star check it out here - https://lnkd.in/gd7u_gQh

We need OpenStreetMap planet as PMTiles. I see so many interesting experiments with Overture — not because it’s better data. But because it’s distributed in a readily useable cloud native format. Who can build this?

📣 Join us for this month’s #Geospatial Innovation LinkedIn Event as we explore Cloud-Native Geospatial. Guest speaker Jed Sundwall, Executive Director at Radiant Earth, will join us. 🌍 What is Cloud-Native Geospatial? Cloud-native geospatial represents a modern approach for managing and accessing spatial data through cloud-based storage and delivery systems. These formats are optimized for deployment and hosting within cloud environments. This approach offers many advantages, including: 🔹 Lower Costs:: It reduces the expenses associated with geospatial data management. 🔹 Facilitates Sharing of Geospatial Data: Sharing data is as easy as dragging and dropping files into cloud storage. 🔹 Scalability: Cloud providers manage scaling challenges to meet varying demands. 🔹 Efficient Data Access: Users can access only the data they need, saving both time and resources. You “read what you need” 🔹 Lessened Burden on Data Providers: Providers are relieved from maintaining local servers and databases. 🔤 Cloud-native geospatial includes new standards, such as COG, STAC, Zarr, Kerchunk, COPC, Entwine Point Tiles (EPT), FlatGeobuf (FGB), GeoParquet, and fiboa. ✏ Homework Please watch this educational video (https://lnkd.in/gBZHKBxv) to get a great overview of cloud-native geo data created by the folks at Cloud-Native Geo Forum (CNG) (https://lnkd.in/gxhrZ_5G) ✅ Register Sign up below and be sure to add it to your calendar. Come prepared with your ideas, questions, use cases, and colleagues. Innovation in databases brings joy to all geospatial, #EO, #Imagery, and #GIS users!
