Naz Fathma Tumpa, a Ph.D. in Chemistry and Nanoscale Science student, placed in the top five finalists in the Collegiate Inventors Competition! The collaborative research focuses on an innovative drug detection method using a color-changing solution that earned the team a spot among the nation's top inventors.
Chemistry researchers from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte were named nationwide Top 5 finalists among 300 teams for the 2024 Collegiate Inventors Competition, a program from the National Inventors Hall of Fame. 🎉 🎉 Naz Fathma Tumpa and Aiden Hawkins worked with advisors Michael G. Walter and Tyler Adams on their invention which uses a bright, color-changing solution to test for drugs like fentanyl, heroin and cocaine. In a testament to the collaborative research happening only at Charlotte, they are the first-ever finalist team with both a graduate and undergraduate student researcher since the competition began in 1990. 💚 ⛏️ Learn more about their research from the Walter lab in this video: https://lnkd.in/eBP_Mgzy

As a graduate student, your program might just give you the chance to study abroad! This past summer, Master of Architecture and Master of Urban Design students joined a month-long, faculty-led program in Japan. The trip included a collaborative workshop with other university students in Japan and a travel week that took them from Tokyo to the various islands of Japan via bullet train and ferry.
