CNI Director Clifford Lynch Announces June 2025 Retirement “I have been the Executive Director of CNI since mid-1997; this has genuinely been the role of a lifetime for me, a fantastic opportunity and honor. As a community, I think we can all be proud of what CNI has accomplished and what it has grown to be, and of the value it has brought to all of us. Working with the fantastic CNI staff, the leadership – past and present – of ARL and EDUCAUSE, the (sometimes very long-serving) members of the CNI Steering Committee, and all of you who make up the broader CNI community has been an incredible experience. Thank you.” Read his full announcement at: https://lnkd.in/etz-Xkpc We’ll continue sharing updates on his June 2025 transition to CNI Director Emeritus. Association of Research Libraries EDUCAUSE

🎉 CNI, the Association of Research Libraries, and EDUCAUSE are honored to announce that physicist, computer scientist, and computational scientist Tony Hey has been named the 2024 recipient of the Paul Evan Peters Award. The award recognizes notable achievement in the creation and innovative use of network-based information resources and services that advance scholarship and intellectual productivity. CNI Executive Director Clifford Lynch stated, “Tony is a wonderful choice for the Paul Evan Peters Award…it’s remarkable to me how his work and his leadership repeatedly connect with the evolution of networked information—his contributions to high-performance computing, repositories, and scholarly communication, and the rich array of collaborations he established and advanced during his time at Microsoft. And, of course, he edited and highlighted the absolutely foundational Feynman Lectures on Computation…” After a distinguished career, including time at University of Southampton and University of Washington eScience Institute, Tony retired in 2023 as chief data scientist at the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC), leaving a legacy in physics, high-performance computing, and computer science. AI Literacy in Education and Libraries | Dean & Professor | President of the Association of College & Research Libraries (ACRL) | Workforce Upskilling
Excited to share this podcast that breaks down the complex topic of AI's future impact on research and knowledge!🎧 https://lnkd.in/gRnS--uw As a member of the Association of Research Libraries / Coalition for Networked Information Joint Task Force on Scenario Planning for AI/ML Futures, I contributed to the "ARL/CNI AI Scenarios: AI-Influenced Futures" report, which explores four potential scenarios for how AI might develop by 2035: Scenario 1: #Democratized and Socially Integrated AI: AI is responsibly integrated into society, enhancing human capabilities and transforming research. Scenario 2: #Consumer-Oriented AI Focused on Education and Entertainment: AI primarily advances in consumer applications, with limited impact on research. Scenario 3: #Laissez-Faire AI: Hasty and poorly regulated AI adoption leads to missed opportunities and societal problems. Scenario 4: #Autonomous AI: AI becomes increasingly independent, surpassing human capabilities in research and raising ethical questions. This 15 min podcast, generated using Google’s NotebookLM, distills these scenarios into an easy-to-understand format. Give it a listen to learn more about the potential impacts of AI on our future, and feel free to share your thoughts! https://lnkd.in/gRnS--uw #AI #research #knowledge #future #podcast #librarians #highered
