What does bread and butter RTCC work really look like? 🍞 🧈 In 2022, the National Real Time Crime Center Association had a simple survey to find out which technologies are most critical in RTCCs' successful operations. The overwhelming response highlighted a blend of ALPRs (Automated License Plate Readers) and integrated cameras. A few weeks back, while walking through the Cobb County Police Department’s RTCC, I witnessed our team of Public Safety Analysts act swiftly on an alert from an ALPR. They confirmed that the vehicle was stolen and then visually tracked it using integrated DOT cameras. They relayed real-time information to Precinct 3 officers over radio, enabling them to plan a felony vehicle stop at a time and place of their choosing. The teamwork was beautiful to watch: in minutes, the officers made their stop, detained the driver who had active arrest warrants, and seized a firearm. From alert to arrest: 9 minutes ⏰ 💨 This event is a prime example of the bread and butter work RTCCs are capable of in creating more effective and efficient law enforcement responses. While the public’s attention often gravitates towards more shocking incidents like homicides, armed robberies, or shootings, it's these seemingly daily mundane incidents that showcase the significant strides made in public safety technology.
