On October 30, 2024 Cuba will submit a resolution to the UN General Assembly to lift the US embargo for the 32nd time. The first time the resolution was submitted it was supported by 59 countries, today the number of states voting for its adoption has grown to 187. For the last several years only two countries have opposed the resolution, the United States and Israel. These same countries are conducting a genocide of the Palestinian population in Gaza. Gaza, which has been under siege much like Cuba since 2007. The situation in Cuba has become increasingly dire since the Trump administration added Cuba to the State Sponsor of Terrorism List (SSOT), a designation that the Biden administration upheld. The SSOT allows the US government to place secondary sanctions on countries that engage in trade with Cuba. So if a ship docks in Cuba, they can't dock in the US harbors for at least 6 months. This has resulted in critical commodities like medical equipment becoming very difficult to come by in Cuba. DC & CHICAGO: join us send a strong message to the Biden/Harris administration that we stand with Cuba and Palestine! DC: codepink.org/cuba1030 CHICAGO: codepink.org/chicagocuba24

CODEPINK is a women-led grassroots organization working to end US wars and militarism, support peace and human rights.
About us
CODEPINK is a gender-inclusive, women-led grassroots organization working to end U.S. wars and militarism, support peace and human rights initiatives, and redirect our tax dollars into healthcare, education, green jobs and other life-affirming programs. Founded in fall 2002 as a grassroots effort to prevent the US war on Iraq, we continue to organize for justice for Iraqis and to hold war criminals accountable. We actively oppose the continuing U.S. war in Afghanistan, torture, the detention center at Guantanamo, weaponized and spy drones, the prosecution of whistleblowers, U.S. support for the Israeli occupation of Palestine and repressive regimes. Rooted in a network of local organizers, online supporters and generous donors, with an emphasis on joy and humor, our tactics include satire, street theatre, creative visuals, civil resistance, and directly challenging powerful decision-makers in government and corporations. And of course, wearing pink!

This Halloween, #TrickOrTreat4UNRWA! 🍉 🎃 The ongoing genocide in Gaza has been devastating for Palestinian youth. Children have been out of school for over a year. They face food shortages, water shortages, high risk of infection, and constant displacement by Israeli attacks. An entire generation faces long term physical and emotional trauma from these crimes. UNRWA is the largest provider of education, healthcare, emergency assistance, and so much other crucial aid to Palestinian refugees in Gaza and throughout the region. While the U.S. continues to halt funding due to unproven lies made by the Israeli government, UNRWA needs our support now more than ever. Find more information on how you can support and participate in #TrickOrTreat4UNRWA at codepink.org/trickortreat.

Last week, Netflix deleted at least 19 films by Palestinian filmmakers or about Palestinian stories from its platform. Storytelling is a crucial aspect of keeping Palestinian history alive — Netflix is literally erasing Palestinians’ stories and perspectives from popular culture. In 2012, CODEPINK visited Gaza after the 8-day Israeli attack. In those 8 days, Israel killed at least 158 Palestinians in Gaza. Gaza has been under constant bombardment and attack by Israel for over 76 years. Watch the full documentary by Elsa Rassbach here: https://lnkd.in/gZBifnnP The documentary was shot in Jabalia refugee camp in 2012. Elsa's guide was Majed Abusalama, a Palestinian journalist and activist who grew up in Jabalia Camp and is now residing in Berlin. He has many relatives and friends still living in Jabalia and frequently writes about their and his experiences: https://lnkd.in/g5BvAPZm. https://lnkd.in/g28X8Z6t
