About us
Cohn Lifland Pearlman Herrmann & Knopf LLP is one of the oldest and most highly respected law firms in New Jersey. Our firm was founded more than 90 years ago by David Cohn, whose goal was to provide excellent legal services for everyday people and small businesses in Northern New Jersey. We share the same goal today. Over the years, as our firm has grown, so has our reputation. We moved from our original offices in Paterson to our current location in Saddle Brook, where more than 20 lawyers engage in a wide-ranging litigation practice, including commercial litigation, personal injury, criminal defense, estate and probate litigation, family law and bankruptcy. Cohn Lifland handles trials and appeals in state and federal courts, up to and including the United States Supreme Court. We also handle corporate and real estate transactions. Cohn Lifland is based in Bergen County and has roots in Passaic County, but, as our NJLAWFIRM website indicates, we handle matters throughout New Jersey. If you have a legal issue, we would be happy to speak with you about it, just as we have helped thousands of clients since 1924. We know the law. We can help.

Significant changes to New Jersey’s Open Public Records Act take effect September 3, 2024. The changes include (1) new requirements that requestors certify regarding whether the request is for a commercial purpose or is related to a legal proceeding; (2) a new cause of action in favor of public agencies against requestors where public agencies can ask courts to limit or even eliminate their obligation to respond to OPRA requests; (3) expanded privacy protections; and much more. Questions about these changes should be directed to Walter Luers or Christina Stripp #OPRA #openpublicrecords
