David B. Sacks, MBChB, FCAP, member of the CAP’s Clinical Chemistry Committee, shares insight on the origins of accuracy-based testing for hemoglobin A1C and how this innovative approach tackles matrix effects — differences in test results from different methods — to ensure accuracy across laboratories. Make accuracy your number-one focus. Only the CAP's Accuracy-Based Programs allow laboratories to compare their test results with reference method results, using genuine human specimens that are matrix-related, bias-free, and have target values traceable to certified reference materials. In October, the CAP filed an amicus brief in federal court to vacate the FDA regulation on the oversight of laboratory-developed tests (LDTs). The CAP opposes the FDA regulation because pathologists and laboratories fear these restrictions will make it difficult for laboratories to continue to develop and provide LDTs, disrupting and delaying the diagnosis of disease and treatment of patients. Our FAQ page answers your questions on the CAP’s amicus brief and advocacy work. Read more https://brnw.ch/21wOupj
