When I started College Viability, LLC in 2019, I had no idea that the product would be an app. My first product was an actual college financial statement that I typed my comments on in my Adobe Acrobat software. Really ugly. To paraphrase the old cigarette commercial: "we have come a long way, baby". The 2024 versions of the Private College Viablity apps include special versions for college leaders, one for faculty and staff, and one for students and their families. Learn more details about the versions of the 20204 Private College Viability app at the link below. https://lnkd.in/g9Wq4_Pm #collegeviability #cvapp #collegeclosures #willmycollegeclose #collegefinances #collegeadmissions

Providing easy-to-read financial viability information about private colleges and universities.
About us
Anyone who has gone through the college search and selection process, knows the type of effort required to submit the financial information about our families. Colleges and universities learn much about our finances. However, families and students need to know more about the financial viability of private colleges they may be considering. The increasing numbers of private colleges and universities with demonstrable financial challenges increases the risk that college chosen may not be financially viable for the time required to earn a degree from that college.

This week's news and commentary: + Cutbacks at Drexel and SLU + Fitch Ratings: Pressure Mounts for U.S. Colleges As Students Head Back to School + Wittenberg University's embarrasing letter to its bond holders + Martin Center: Universities Are Doing Education Badly + How much college content is just repeated high school content? I watched some 40- 50,000 people run in the Chicago Marathon yesterday. It was a spectacle of humanity to see so many people invest so much into a challenging endeavor like running 26.2 miles Watching some 50,000 people pass you in a matter of about 90 minutes, is a lot of humankind. As I was watching those tens of thousands of souls, it was easy to make the connection to a higher education number. 40,000 is about the same number of college students impacted by college closures over the past few years. Countless times as my family traversed the marathon route in Chicago supporting a loved one, I saw the excitement of people recognizing their loved ones running with screams of joy. As I reflected on those encounters, I couldn’t help but think about how many closed colleges are taking away that same joyous scream from thousands of their students and families So for those who write off small percentage of college closures as not a big deal, no impact on the overall market, - you are missing the human point. These are thousands of hopes and dreams being shredded by colleges that should not be in the business of higher education. Grab a seat at the CHI, BOS, NY or even other marathons. Watch some thousands or more human beings pass you as they engage in that challenge of challenges. https://lnkd.in/gv9DmY27

As we head toward the season of more college closures, I wanted to re-post an interview I did in 2023 with Jonathan Nichols. Mr. Nichols wrote the book: 'Requiem for a College'. It was an intimate, emotional, and thorough story of all that led up to the 2017 closure of St. Joseph's College (IN) Faculty, staff, and community leaders will find value in comparing the events from St. Joseph's with what may be happening on their college campus. https://lnkd.in/g2QFFyur The EdUp Experience

This is the time of the year when Title IV funds are arriving at colleges throughout the country. It is also the time that many CFO's will take that check to the president of their college. In many cases, the message will be: 'this is not enough'. Cutbacks, layoffs, and closure announcements will soon become as common as college football on Saturday afternoon. This week’s top news and commentary: + Yet another college sees football as enrollment salvation + Standard and Poors: College competition and operational pain are the ‘new normal,’ + You Can Now Get Admitted to Hundreds of Colleges Without Even Applying + You get what you pay for. Free community college in Massachusetts expected to draw 45,000 students within a year + Those stories and more on the Oct 7 'This Week in College Viability'. https://lnkd.in/gv9DmY27 These are the organizations or individuals referenced in this week's podcast. This week we turn our program completion comparisons to graduate and undergraduate health care programs for midwestern private colleges. For college leaders, these comparisons will provide data-driven comparisons you can use to better position your organization for strategic growth, cutbacks, and partnerships. As a student or parent, program completion comparisons enable you to make sure the college(s) programs and majors you are considering have enough completion values to have a low risk of being cut. https://lnkd.in/gDiX5fqu
