November 2023: "Leslie, we want you to work on this cool new award!" *8 months later* I'm so proud of what the team at Recognition Media accomplished on Collision Awards. As an animation fan (only a fan...you don't want to see my skribbles), celebrating the unsung artists and heroes of the industry is a special cause for me. Congratulations to all the winners in our first season-- hope to see you win many more! Special thanks to: Sabrina Dridje for her excellent leadership as she steered us into uncharted waters with this new award-- she's a pro unlike any other! Randeep Katari for infiltrating the 🐭 and his always patient guidance on capturing his voice in the many emails I ghostwrote as him (shhhhh 👻 ) Steve Marchese + Emma Whitfield for elevating the power of production and project management. They're basically the reason our company can launch a whole new award in two months over the holidays. Amy Chen + Nix (Shizheng) Ni for their awesome graphic design throughout the season. The pressure is always on when you're working on awards for folks in your own medium, but they consistently displayed their own excellence in animation and motion design. Mackenzie Lawrence for joining the team and reaching our audience where they live: the mad world of animator social media. 💻 Annalee Miller for handling entrant questions and requests with grace and adapting to new systems (how does one submit an entire feature film thru an online portal?) on the fly. Finally, I might write 1000 emails but you would never read them without Taya Kenny, Michael Scites + Stephen Moore working tirelessly to send them to your inbox. 💖

TONIC DNA won silver for #characterdesign at the Collision Awards! Check out the breakdown below of how they created such memorable characters. The story follows Mr. Beaver, who changes from being a grumpy old recluse to someone who learns to share and make new friends, when he decides to teach some rascals who try to steal his Yule Log how to make their own. The character textures include a wide range of materials from fabric to fur, and it was important for them all to have a worn-in quality that communicates life.
